Misty pines quilt infomation
Good morning everyone. Yes I've been a reader for a long time and appreciate all the posts. I learned so much from all of you. Love all the photos too.
My question today is: I am going to make the quilt Misty Pines from an old McCalls magazine and 1- has anyone already made this quilt 2- Did you make it larger 3- did you use any different colors? I would like to make it larger than the 56 x 72 so it will fit a queen bed and I would like to add some shades of green into it also. If you have made this quilt other than the original pattern would you be so kind as to post a picture so I can get some ideas on how to make it different. (I usually change every pattern I make to make it my own!) Thank you for any help you can give me. Have a blessed day! Lauren |

Assuming of course this is the one you are asking about, but I think it is as it references McCalls. I have not made this quilt but it looks like it will be pretty easy to modify to make it larger by adding more FG units that make the trees and/or majestic mountains blocks. In my mind part of the patterns interest is the very muted monotone color palette. I bet you could add some green but I would keep it in the same tone/hue so use a very muted sage shade of green. You would need to audition the color to make sure your eye isn't drawn right to that spot because it has a pop of color, unless of course, that is your intent. Had to pipe in here, even though I've not made the quilt, I sure do like it! I've saved it to my 'to-do' list and would love to see pics as you proceed through yours :)

I remember seeing/loving that pattern a long time ago. I knew right away what pattern you were probably referring to. I am pretty sure Keepsake Quilting sold kits for it in the past.
The top of the pattern is all Delectable Mountains blocks, the bottom is all flying geese strips, so you should easily be able to make it wider and/or longer. Graph paper is your friend. :D |
