Do you mean how to miter the border or your blocks? I use my degree ruler to miter the strips on my blocks. For the border, I fold the whole quilt on diagonal and extend the extra long border pieces out on a table. If I have more than 1 colour, I pin at each border intersection. I then take my degree ruler and draw the sewing line on the wrond side of the borders. I then stitch the border corner with big stitches on my machine (easy to remove). I open it up and make sure it is perfect, if it is, I restitch with regular sewing line. Then I trim the excess down to a 1/4 in. seam.

Good tutorials

IraJane 10-05-2011 03:53 AM

I have developed my own quick method and have taught it a few times. It has made mitering borders as easy as straight borders. I can match stripes at the corners and it works well every time. I haven't done a tutorial yet, but if interest I might take time and do that.

Check out Sharon Schambers video on You Tube on binding a quilt. I found out I can do my miters nicely using her method. I had always had trouble before.

Of course there is always interest in easy or different methods to do bindings or anything else with quilting, waiting for your tutorial IraJane!!

Mine is for mitering borders. I think I've done some pictures along the way and will look for them yet today. Right now I'm leaving for Shisphewana for the auction and of course, the fabric stores. :)

Add me to the interested group--I'm always happy to learn new methods and I love written tutorials! (I have trouble with the You-tube ones because of my slow internet connection--I spend more time waiting than viewing.)

I'm interested in a tute. Please let me know if and when you do it! :D

IraJane 10-07-2011 06:21 AM

The pictures I had taken a while back don't explain quite like I would like to do, so the first of next week I'll put something together and post. I have been using this method for about 4 years and love doing miters and especially miters with stripes that match in the corners.

Patiently waiting. Thanks for offering a tute. Really sounds interesting. Gerbie

I'm so excited about your planned tute. I have a drawer full of stripes I'm just waiting to miter together in matching corners!!!!

Me, too! I think there may be a few of us (newbies, especially) anxiously waiting for this tute.
