Mitered Corners
I designed a block on my EQ program and it has mitered corners. The block is a 3" square in the middle with 1" borders around the block. The pattern prints out with the mitered corners. How do I sew these strips on to the block with the mitered corners? I'm aware of the techniques used for borders but I was hoping that the block could be sewn with the corners already mirrored.
Thanks for any help with this. |
I don't know of any other way to do this other than the same technique you would use with a border.

Thanks PaperPrincess -- Im thinking you're right.

Yes, you do it the same manner that you use for your quilt corners. In fact, using small blocks is a great way to practice doing mitered corners.

Can't you just border the blocks the easy way, or are you using a fabric that really calls for mitering? You can be sneaky and put a HST in the corner and sew strips onto it......have done that on attic windows......

Sashing is a border around a block so it would be mitered like a border but I found I can't do that and not stabilize the blocks or I will have a mess of fullness.

Wish you had posted a photo. ON EQ7, you just click on the Export Image and I save them with my photos. Lot easier than EQ5!!

Unbeknownst to me I had started this thread in the Introduction section instead of the Main section of the Board - that's what I get for not paying attention to where I am - LOL. I designed this n EQ7 but I didn't spend a lot of time with the fabric colors as I just wanted to see if I had the layout right. I want this to e a scrappy quilt. What I'm trying to find out is how to sew the squares. I' now going to attempt to attach the design. Thanks for any help with this.

It depends on whether or not you want to do Y seams at the mitered corners. That would be one way to do it. The other is to make a half-square triangle block of the 2 corner colors of each corner - this eliminates the need for a Y seam.

you can do it with HSTs for the corners
