I am so excited to finally be sewing with my Featherweight but have some serious anxiety about what to do when my bobbin thread runs out. I have had this cute little machine for months and months now but finally got her serviced last month for my birthday. I kept telling myself I would service her myself but got too overwhelmed by it, so I kept putting it off. I know people say it is easy but I just kept getting frustrated.

No need to be overwhelmed! I highly recommend this book to have on hand for anyone owning a featherweight.

(Laughing)...I felt like you...I avoided the whole "winding the bobbin" issue by just using my Sidewinder...took away the stress...maybe later I will actually wind the bobbin on my Featherweight, but for now, I am happily sewing!!!

I wind bobbins on mine. It is not hard. Try it. If you are concerned, wind them on your regular machine. I wind several at a time, so that I will be prepared if I run out while piecing.

I try to use Aurifil thread on my FW as it doesn't take as much room on the bobbin. Therefore I don't need to wind as many for any project.

Having only ever sewn on either my Featherweight or 403 & having wound bobbins on them thousands of times in the 40 years I've been sewing on them, I guess I'm a bit confused as to why you are hesitant to wind bobbins? What about it causes you anxiety? There are enough of us "veterans" here to help you through it if you would like.

Easy Peasy!! Don't be afraid....it's really quite easy.

I think I am worried about winding and threading it through the bobbin case. I think I am just worried because I get frustrated sooo easily and sometimes that makes me want to give up. AND I certainly don't want to quit on my cute little machine.

Do you have a manual? If so it has a pretty good picture of loading the bobbin case. On the Featherweight it really is easy. Hold the bobbin case in your left hand, put the bobbin into the case with the thread coming up over the top of the bobbin counterclockwise. One the bobbin is in pull the thread down & up against the thread guid on the case until you hear it "snap" into place. Pull the thread & make sure the bobbin rotates counterclockwise. Hold the little lever out on the bobbin case and pop the whole thing back into the machine. If you need help, need a manual, or anything else, just let us know. Any one of us will gladly help you so that you can continue to enjoy sewing on your FW.
