mixing different fabrics

I am making a quilt using flannel and regular cotton for the top wondering about using homespun for the backing do you think it will work out. I have washed the flannel and the homespun

I would be a little reticent . I think a small sample item using all fabrics and then wash.

Sure it will work! As long as the homespun has been prewashed it is ready to go. One of my best quilts was top pieced with homespuns and regular cottons with a flannel back; 2 of my brothers really wanted that quilt. Homespuns & flannel makes such soft, cozy quilts!

I agree with ckcowl, just prewash because homespun does shrink a lot as does flannel. I love homespun.

I have also mixed them with success. Pre wash everything. Twice (I've had both homespun and flannel shrink on the second laundering). The up side is it makes the fabric thicker & more cuddly. The only thing I found was the homespun was very loosely woven, so I used a 1/2" seam.

I have used them all together and as long as I prewashed it was good. I have a ton of homespun that someone gave me and I have used a lot of it for backs

Like most others, as long as it's pre-washed shouldn't be a problem. I'm an avid prewasher of everything and anything I bring into my home.

I pre wash everything so yes I agree with everyone as long as you do that you will be fine.

Prewash to decrease excessive shrinkage of the home spun. I have made several quilts this way.

What is homespun?
