Does anyone make modern molas? Molas are reverse applique made uniquely by the people of the San Blas Islands in Panama.
I wonder if anyone has continued the art. |

Cathy Miller, The Singing quilter, teaches a class on modern molas when she visits guilds. Check out her web site:

I saw some at a quilt show in Somers, NY in May 2009. I don't remember the vendor's name, but they were beautiful.

I was able to buy a few molas on ebay a few years ago and made a quilt with them. Check out molas there. I think they have a good selection at reasonable prices. Good luck.

http://www.laurassewingstudio.com has Hmong molas to view. http://www.crossroadstrade.com has Latina made molas and Hmong. At the site click on "embroidery designs" and scroll way down. |

Molas are the actual block made with reverse applique. They are made by the Kuna Indians of the San Blas islands near Panama. The Hmong people of Laos also do reverse applique needlework but they are not called molas.
