Monopoly Type Thread

What is the process you use to secure these types of threads? I have not had good luck with any of my ways. Thank you.

After sewing on machine with it I back stitch a few stitches and then turn the stitch length to 1 and sew over the back stitches. I have never used it for hand sewing. This works with poly mono. I don't use nylon.

Thank you, Onebyone! Appreciate your input. I'm doing a wall hanging with raw edge appliqué. I am stitching the appliqué down before I put the batting and backing onto the front, so I decided to just pull the mono (poly) through to the back, take a couple of stitches and then leave 1" tails. These will all be in between the "sandwich" and I believe will be stable. I'm not a fan of mono but for this project, I believe it is the best choice. This is a "reverse" appliqué where I have the holes cut in the top fabric and the yellow and blue fabrics are behind the butterfly. My GD raised 12 caterpillars into Black Swallowtail butterflies this summer. This was a photo of one that her dad sent to me.

That is beautiful! Your method should work great with the tails in between the quilt.

Talk about 2 meanings for the same word: I read this and before I went any farther, I tried to figure out what monopoly thread was. Thinking board game: Monopoly, the little guy in the tophat, the little scotty dog, and tiny car. Had to read a bit further to find out it was mono-poly. This age thing (70) is starting to worry me, but occasionally still good for a bit of a giggle.

#1 - You did an awesome job replicating the butterfly from the picture.

#2 - I think your method will work just fine. I've always just either back stitched a few stitches or did several stitches in place to secure the ends of this type of thread.
