Monster face?

2 Attachment(s)
I just finished a Bargello quilt top, except for borders. BUT, all I see when I look at my design wall is a big monster face. :( I hope when I get borders on I won't see two double eyes, and a frowny mouth. I am still early in the border decision process, but I am leaning towards a light blue inner border and a purple outer border. I am not at all sure what sizes those will be.

Do you see a monster face when you look at this??? The first picture is the Bargello part, and the second has the two borders I am currently considering.

Yes I do, but I probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't brought it up first. I love the colors you used.

linda8450 02-13-2017 09:24 AM

I think it will be fine when you are all done, monster will go into hiding and be quiet! I might try the darker purple against the quilt as a stop border, with the lighter border on the outside. Just me. Beautiful, I haven't been brave enough to do one yet!

feline fanatic 02-13-2017 10:08 AM

Turn it 90 degrees.

QuiltnNan 02-13-2017 10:09 AM

if you hadn't pointed it out, i wouldn't have given it a second thought

Turn it 90 degrees.
I think feline fanatic got it right. Looks beautiful when turned. And I do love the colors.

Tartan 02-13-2017 11:22 AM

It looks like a tiki mask to me and it's neat!

minibarn 02-13-2017 11:56 AM

I'm sorry you are not happy w/your quilt , I did get a chuckle out of what you said though. I see eyes also but not a monster at all. I think it is very pretty. I would try turning it like the others said or I'm afraid you will always see the "monster" now that you have it in your head.

Dina 02-13-2017 12:08 PM

My sister suggested that I think of it as an alien. I am okay with aliens, as I pretty much hope when they find us that they are friendly. So, alien it is. :)

could see it as a "save the ta-tas" quilt? It really is beautiful.

Mitty 02-13-2017 12:56 PM

Since you pointed it out I can see what you mean, but it's not what I see unless I look for it.

When the quilt is in use you won't be looking at the whole thing like that - the sides will be hanging over the sides of the bed, or it will be on top of someone on the couch or folded on a chair. I'm guessing that you won't see it once it's off your design wall.

Kassaundra 02-13-2017 01:01 PM

If your a Whovian you can look at it as a double heart.

I had to google Whovian, to see if I am one, and I am! (Dr. Who fan) :)

I think it looks like two digitized butterflies sitting side by side.

Jane Quilter 02-14-2017 01:32 AM

you wont see it when its on the bed. Toss a foot blanket or a foot quilt at the bottom if you do. It really is gorgeous.

LindaJ 02-14-2017 03:09 AM

Or owl eyes. Pretty whatever you see

Taughtby Grandma 02-14-2017 04:41 AM

Yes, I see him too. I like the choices you made for the borders. I love bargellos, they are so diverse.

illinois 02-14-2017 05:00 AM

Oh, yes, now that you mention it. But I see the corners of his mouth turning up, too. I think the others are correct that, once it's on the bed, you won't necessarily see that. Maybe it's kinda like most days--a bit of frown and a bit of smile?? Love your quilt though.

Dina 02-14-2017 05:20 AM

You are all so sweet to help me see the bright side of my alien/monster. I have pretty much decided on my borders and I will turn it 90 degrees when I use it. Both decisions have calmed my initial reaction. Thanks for all of your thoughts. I was a bit creeped out to have spent so much time on this and then had a "face" that surprised me.

I should have the borders on today and will post the results on Pictures. Thanks again, everyone. :)

Lol. Glad you solved your problem. What occurred to me was to turn it, but others already thought of that. It's beautiful and will look wonderful on your bed. Enjoy it!

Helps! But once you see eyes, it is hard to un-see them.

Well since you mentioned it, yes I do see the monster face. Just don't tell anyone and they won't notice it, I am sure.

salederer 02-14-2017 07:46 AM

I had to laugh! I see what you mean. But I don't think I would have seen it if you hadn't said something. It's still a very pretty quilt.

Thanks for the picture! That is what I have decided to do....that and not mention that I see a monster face when I show it at Show and Tell in the next guild meeting!! The border I am doing is going to help also.

Thanks again for the picture. :)

How funny! I had not ever seen a monster face before - but now - I think I will be looking for that at every bargello I see! No matter what, it is a very good looking quilt top.

NZquilter 02-14-2017 03:35 PM

I think if you turn it 90 degrees the face will disappear. Lovely colors too!

williesmom 02-15-2017 05:35 AM

Yes, but I also used to see evil monkey kings in the stained glass windows of my former church. :o

costumegirl 02-15-2017 05:50 AM

Your quilt has very pretty colours and you've done a lovely job! I too had to take a second look to see your "friend" :)

Turning 90 degrees will make her disappear :)

popover 02-15-2017 05:56 AM

Looks like a pair of barn owls to me.

nwm50 02-15-2017 09:29 AM

Like the purple with blue....

Carol34446 02-15-2017 01:13 PM

I agree with some ofthe others, think of it as an owl face not a monster and it is pretty and cute as can be.

Maybe a large appliqué of an initial of the user right in the center to take away the monster you see but I do not?

You could take apart the center seam (across the middle horizontally) and switch the top and the bottom. It'll look something like this:

You know, I like this idea. I already have the borders on, but I might just do this. Thanks!!

I think your quilt looks very nice. Sometimes when I have been working on something non-stop, I see all kinds of things no one else does.

Pat M. 02-17-2017 10:07 AM

Rattlesnake pattern, pretty cool. Like the colors.
