mosaic picture quilting

Has anyone done any mosaic picture quilting? I'd like to learn more about it but I haven't found much information on it. Does anyone have any good reference tuts to help get me started or any information that would be helpful? I'd appreciate any help. Thank you.

I did this some years ago. I call it mosaic, but not sure if it really is. In the picture it just looks like one big piece of fabric but I cut it to little squares.

Mosaic as in little pieces like in the Snippets method? Pieces with bias tape between like in the stain glass method? Pixelated fabric pieces that make a picture when veiwed from a distance? I need more clarification.

Maybe I'm calling it wrong. It's when you take a picture of something "like flowers" and you use a bunch of pieces of fabric to build the flower by quilting it all together to make it look like the picture. I called it mosaic because mosaic's are a bunch of pieces put together. Am I as clear as mud?

After googling snippets method since I'd never heard that term before, I'm incline to say that's what it is.

Try checking out Susan Carlsons' blog. She has books and patterns and is VERY generous about posting her process online. She calls her method 'collage' quilting. Some of her students' work looks more like fabric by number to my eye. Check out Crocodylus Smylus. There is a time lapse video that is fabulous. She uses glue..I had a hard time wrapping my head around it, but am working on a project I started in her class. Maybe this is what you are looking for...

I think I would let technology work for me here. Suggest taking a picture of the quilt/picture/drawing, etc. and bring it up in Adobe Photoshop. Adobe has many artistic effects that can be applied to any picture. In fact, I think they have one that is called "mosaic." Another way might be to "pixelate" it where the pic is rendered into the little squares similar to mosaic tiles.

Summarily: Get a picture and play with it in Adobe. Save your best-loved effect and work your fabrics from that.

Is this what you mean? This is made up of irregular pieces averaging about 2" each. If that's what you mean, I can tell you how I did it.
