This is my big mistake too!!
I'm keeping an eye out for another tiny ripper for "just in case." As another poster mentioned, the ones that come with sewing machines are among the best. :) |
My favorite seam ripper is the white Clover one. I have several, they have a small point and very sharp.

I have the Gingher seam ripper and don't care for it. It is too thick to rip. It isn't sharp. I bought a "Farmore 5.5" Stainless Steel Seam Ripper" that includes 3 blades from an online store and this baby is sharp and the blade is thin. It is great. I put my Gingher away and don't use it anymore. It's useless. Try the Farmore ripper. It comes with a cap to protect you.

Hi! Lurker here with my first post. I'm with I'm unwound, complain to the Fons & Porter website. At the very least your comment may warn another quilter who is thinking of buying the tool. If enough quilters complain about it, then there may be a chance that the problem will be investigated and resolved.
I also had a problem with a rotary cutter. I recieved one as a "free gift" in the mail. I beleive that itwas an Olfa. It was a stick style cutter and I could not get it to work for me. I found it awkward and unreliable for straight lines. Wound up sending it back. Later I was in the market for a cutter and board combo and found a set by Fiskar. The cutter had a "gun" handle on it. Loved it! The handle was curved and a bit rounded and very comfortable. I've had it for years. I looked at the set in JoAnn's recently and the cutter has been replaced by one in the stick style. Boo-oo! They lost my vote. Jamickie |
I have the same problem with my F&P seam ripper. I like the larger handle to hold on to, but the tip and the rolling off the table aggrivate me. I have a green seam ripper that I bought at Joanns that I like better- it was with the sewing notions. There is also a larger one. Mmm next sale.

I bought a clover seam ripper that works real well for me. it is 2 shades of green.

My worst tool is an all in one thingy. It consists of a seam ripper, tiny magnifying glass, needle threader, etc. in a pink hollow tube. When you open it, every thing falls out and none of the things work for me.

MacThayer, where do you get it?

The rotary blade sharpener was a total waste of money for me.

I have three seam rippers, all three have a round handle, it's so annoying when they roll away!! I am looking for a rubber band as we speak!!
