Motorcycle quilt

I know I'm probably crazy, but I want to hand piece a motorcycle for the center of a quilt for my son. Does anyone know where I can find a pattern or should I design my own pattern??. I know there are printed blocks to purchase but I want something more personal.
Thanks, Dee

Designing it yourself, will give you a one-of-a-kind and will make it so much more of a treasure, to him and yourself!! :D

You have probably already thought of this but when I want to applique something I buy a coloring book. The ones made for small children are usually uncomplicated and easy to reproduce in fabric. That will be great. Kids love their one of a kinds.

That Patchwork Place has an ebook available called Mosaic Picture Quilts by Pat Durbin. To make these quilts, you use a photo and place it on a grid, that you then copy with scraps of fabric. Maybe this would be a possibility for a center block. A photo of your son's bike and away you go. Another possibility is embroidery, there are loads of motorcycle patterns available online. I have embroidered BMW bikes and logos for my DH on shirts and t-shirts.

Have you seen that beautiful rose applique in pictures? Now google motorcycles and choose a picture in images. I use this many times with strange male requests.
Try google motorcycle cartoons in images easier applique .

If you want to piece the motorcycle you could find a cross stitch pattern and just use squares or half square triangles instead of stitches. It works beautifully. You can then also decide to go with blocks any size you want them to be. I have just finished piecing a very detailed realistic owl using this method.

If your son owns a motorcycle take a picture of it and use it as your pattern.
