Movin' Along almost ready for demo
 

I mentioned not that long ago I was preparing to demo how to put the bindings on the prairie point star quilted trivets for my guild. Several of us are doing different sections of the demo.
I have been making a variety of sizes to demo different techniques. The larger trivets will be circular while smaller ones will have octagonal edges.I will show a finished one of each of the 2 sizes. I will show one of each with the binding sewn to the back side. And actually sew the binding onto 4 different ones at the guild meeting that way several groups can see how it is done without crowding. I am now working on the smaller 8" trivets, one circular and all the rest I do for now will be octagonal. I figure I have 3 more to go as I type. I am hoping I will complete them today. I have plenty of time to prep them (another 7 weeks). I don't like to leave things to chance. Here is a picture of what I have done so far. Any thoughts on how I can better demo these techniques (bindings only) I will appreciate it.
It doesn't matter to me how many I make either. I will be able to use them as gifts. They have always gone over really well in earlier years. It has been about 10 years since I gave them as gifts.
Once I have this project finished I will only have about a dozen or so WIPs to go!

These are beautiful! My grandmother had pillows out of this. I don’t know if she made them. Do you have a link to a pattern? If so, please share.

Very pretty. I made a folded star pillow once. It was a tangled mess after I washed it. It was a kit I bought.

It looks as if you have good demo's to show in different stages. I would think it will make it easy to show/do. I also love the pattern. What a beautiful gift this would be. Good luck.

I have no advice but about 25 years ago my sister-in-law bought me one that I still use. I love it and yours!

Having several examples is the best idea. Quilters love to pick up and touch, looks like you are well prepared.

I made a bunch of those a couple years ago; think it was a free pattern - somewhere. Will have to see if I can find it...
Here is a tutorial for it. Very easy to follow. And they give you the supplies/sizes at the beginning of the video so you can 'pause' it and copy the information. You can make it as uniform or scrappy as you want. Your preference.

I made a number of these back in the 1980s. I made two as insets for sewing machine covers for my mom and mother in law, several into tea cozies and a couple as trivets. They use a lot more fabric than just piecing a star, but I do like them. I love stars! I have a small booklet for making them, and it has my “go to” directions to make continuous bias binding.
