Moving to Florida
My daughter got a new job near Jacksonville, Florida, so I will be going along. Temporary at first and if we like it we will probably move there as well. Does anyone know of a quilt guild, or any good quilt shows in the Fernandina Beach area?
Any info will be appreciated. Pat (Worried about hurricanes) LOL |
here's one i found on google. http://www.aiquilters.com/

Welcome to Sunny FL...I have lived here for 25 years and so far have not been in a single hurricane ..tropical storm weather yes, but nothing more....You will love that Fernandina beach area...Not sure about quilting shops etc, since I am between Tampa and Orlando..I do remember a GREAT craft show there when I traveled the circuit about 10 years ago..

FYI - for future reference:
You just missed the big show in Jax - http://www.quiltfestjax.com/ it's held the same time every year. |
Good for you, I would want a cooler area. I like the changing seasons.

Lucky you! I am visiting a friend right now in Ft Myers...plenty of sun and fun, love the pool and could probably get used to golf, it is just a short drive to the beach and the neighbors are a lot of fun! I could definitely get used to this! I did see a quilt shop nearby, as well. Wonder how DH might feel about me retiring and moving down here?

Welcome, hope you like the area you move to. There should be several guilds in that area and lots of quilt stores.
I live in North Central Florida, about 10 miles from the Gulf and about 70 South of Tallahassee. delma |
I looked up on the net: http://www.ssqa.org SSQA is the Fla. state quilters' guild. You will find a lot of information there.

There are several quilt shops in Jacksonville. Personally Cinnamon's is my favorite, but the others are nice too. I have not been to any guild in Jacksonville, but I know there are several. Look them up online. I don't live in Jax, but go up there occasionally to shop. It's a nice city. My husband actually lived there for 21 yrs, until he married me and I made him move to the country, lol, since we have horses and goats.
Make plans to go to the quilt show there next year. It's a good one. Welcome to Florida. |
Having lived in FL for over 30 years I can say you will love it. It's a lot less work as you don't have to prep your car, your house or your closet. The big plus is if you decide not to go out, it's only because you didn't want to!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I have lived in the same part of Ohio all my 58 years, so I am sure it will be different. I don't think I will miss the snow or cold.

I hope you enjoy yournewlocation as much as I love living in South Florida....I'm from Maryland, but have been in Juno Beach for several years...there is a change of seasons...sort of....hot and humid in the summer as it was in Md....but then day after day of wonderful weather....hurricanes are a problem....but you get plenty of warning and then go for some years without them...Yeah....if you look on the east side, check out Juno Beach Hattie
