mug rugs

I would like to make some mug rugs for my SIL. What is a good size to make them? Thank you in advance.

Mine is 5 X 7, so I can fit a nice size mug and treats...

I made a postcard and sent it to my mom. She uses it like a mug rug.

I've made a lot of mine 7x7, as I do a lot of PP with patterns that size.

Thank you for the replies. I have to get started because I want to have them done for Christmas eve.

Have you decided on a pattern? The snowball block with a third fabric for the binding is really fast. I don't even trim the corner triangles. And I use fleece, pre-quilted fabric, even heavy double knit for the backs.

I would make it anywhere between 7 x 9 and up. Here is a tutorial for a cute pleated christmas tree block that finishes at 8 x 10 for framing.
