I need to make a challenge block for a quilt retreat in November. We were given a fat quarter with musical notes on it. We have to design a bloc around it . I would appreciate any ideas. The winner gets all the blocks to make a quilt!

not sure what size you are to make the block, but i did a 12 finished block one time with the piano key pattern down one side and appliqued bias strips in a wavy pattern to show sound, then cut musical notes out of black fabric to applique onto the base. Depending on the color of your fat quarter, it could be one of the colors in the piano key pattern, or the background to it all.

I bought a book of paper pieced musical instruments five or more years ago, and it included a clarinet, french horn, piano, trombone and drum. You could make one of those, and use your musical fabric as the background.
