I've been trying to find info on "thread count" of muslin and find out which brand is considered best brand to buy for good quality muslin.

Not having much success at it.

I've also been told that there is muslin specifically used just for dying but would not give me the source. Anyone happen to know what it is.

I'm looking for good quality muslin..... thread count is important as well as being unbleached and natural.

I want to use it for dying as well as drawing and painting on it and use in quilting one of a kind projects.

Ron Loc makes several grades of muslin they have a very good premium muslin. Many sellers do not put the thread count on the listings... they just say high quality or premium .. well that not exactly a guarentee you are getting the best or highest quality.
I have had great success with Ron Loc premium , permant press, pre-shrunk. Just a note the "pre- shrunk" still does shrink just a bit. ..but the quality is high so I stay with it. The manufactures number is Ron Loc 404 or 403 , depending on if you want bleached or unbleached.
I purchase each by the bolt, these have more than standard quilting cottons on a bolt. I think the last time I purchased one it had 50 yards per bolt.
Not all muslin is PFD ( prepared for dying). Ron Loc does have a muslin PFD , its number 408
I used to split bolts with family , before I moved too far to make it convienient.

I bought some of Ron Loc at WalMart yesterday and picked what seemed to me to be the thickest ones. I purchased some of the tea-dyed for a project I have in mind....as well as the Wide Perm Pressed..... and the Super Muslin seems a better quality than the other two.

Have you also considered "Ecology Cloth" not sure of the mfg. but it is a muslin type fabric but without the bits of stiff in it. good thread count.

Jo Anns carry Legacy Studio and Kona muslins. Both are very nice and seem to have a high thread count.
