Muslin question

I am thinking about making a Cathedral Window quilt. Does anyone have suggestions as to what type of muslin to use? I've been looking at Kona Premium but I think this one resists folding/creasing. I live in the country and will be needing to order this online without being able to touch it first so suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your help.

I think just a plain bleached white muslin is what you need.Without feeling it you won't be able to tell just how think it is. You may need to go by the price per yard. About 6.00 a yard. Check out Hobby Lobby on internet.

Jo Ann's has some excellent muslin - premium quality and it is extra wide. I use my coupons to get it unless it is on sale. Excellent

Look carefully at the label on how to wash the muslin. I found some muslin that actually said to "hand wash" it. How crazy.
Lucky for me I'm only using it as a lining under a chair cushion cover, but now I read the labels carefully.

Here is a great tutorial on cathedral windows. They say to use Quilters Cloth. Also I would use Magic Sizing or Best Press when ironing ....makes the fabric respond better to the iron and gives more structure to the fabric.

I bought mine from Hobby Lobby online at $1.99 a yard. (without coupon) I purchased Premium Unbleached. If you go to store you can use 40% coupon on one cut which saves A LOT, but if you use coupon online, the discount is only on 1 yard.
I didn't wash mine before starting my Cathedral Window, so expect some shrinkage. Wash in cold water/delicate and air dry if possible. Mine irons up fine and holds creases. I do use a little steam doing that which causes some shrinkage. Hope this info helps

fabric.com has a good assortment of muslins, their 'premium bleached muslin' is very nice- i'm using it now for background blocks for an appliqued quilt- and they have free shipping at the $35 mark---I can always find enough fabrics/thread/batting/ what ever on their site to meet that- they have a good selection/variety and prices...I've been shopping with them for way over 10 years.

I have made five quilts in the past year and have used Legacy Brand's bleached wide muslin. It is the same base fabric that they use for their quilting fabrics and has a great hand. Nice tight weave, opaque, and a really good price, especially with a coupon at Joanns.

BTW, the quilt in my avatar is one of the quilts using it. I posted a picture of my son's quilt too. There it was used with two batiks so I want a pure, solid white and it definitely fit the bill. HTH
