Muslin and Thread Matching

Got a question for our Muslin ladies out there.

I worked on my sister's Double Wedding Ring design yesterday and I've finally made the decision to go with a natural Muslin, unbleached for the background and for her arcs, I was going to use hand-dyed, ombre fabrics in sage green and red. I used to use just any thread that matched the Muslin when piecing my quilt together, but since this is for my sister, I was planning on using Aurifil, I've noticed that they don't necessarily have a 'natural' color. The one I have found says that it's a Muslin color, but reviews are saying it's kind of a silvery blue color.

What does everyone use for matching thread to Muslin? I really don't want to try and match hand-dyed fabrics to a thread color, I'd rather the thread disappear into the Muslin.

Aurfil has 270 colors....2311 is "muslin". On the online color chart it does not look silver blue, it is a very light cream. You could see if you can find a place to buy a color card for Aurfil. Then you could see which color would match the closest to what muslin you actually have. Color cards can be pricey but if you like that thread, it is great to have actual samples of all the colors. I have several color cards but none for Aurfil. Another option would be look at the color cards online and pick 3-4 that look closest to the muslin you have. As they all will be natural colors, you probably will use them all in the future for something...yeppers….I have a fairly large thread "stash" to go with my fabric stash. I haven't been to quilt shop for quit a while even before Covid-19 as there is no need and I am trying to use some things up.

I have found that thread colors usually called Cream, Light Beige, Sand, Off White, and even Ivory works fine with muslin.

I just always use a cream colored Auriful when I sew muslin and it matches fine.

I have used the Aurifil Muslin thread with Muslin fabric and it blends great!

Just in case you want another opinion, I have been using "glide" in the pearl color for piecing and quilting.

I have one spool of thread named Medium Drab. I bought it just for the name. LOL

I use Guterman's 506 for almost everything! Works for me!
