I love seeing all the old sewing machines members post and feel their excitement having them! So I want to share with you my Mom's sewing machine which I now own. I've named her "Tootsie" in honor of my Mom. She was a wonderful sewer and I learned from her on this machine. "Tootsie" hasn't been used in many years and I think I will have her services this year. She gives me wonderful memories of my Mom. Miss her dearly.
I know there are a lot of pictures, but I just wanted to show your all the treasures I have from Mom.

Thanks for sharing "Tootsie" with us. She looks a lot like the one I found for my friend to restore. Where did you get the info from the Singer Sewing Company. I'd like to be able to get that same info for her. Appreciate any help.

Wowza! A great old machine and lots of extras. Have fun!

I have my Mom's Singer 15-91, bought in 1951 -- same age as I am!

I love all the pictures and know just how you feel. I have my grandmothers 1937 Singer, in cabinet, similar to yours. I used to use it to make clothes, many years ago. Sweet memories of my grandmother. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

Wow. I didn't know they made all those attachments for machines way back then.

earthwalker 04-23-2011 08:38 PM

Lovely machine...and story. You certainly have a lot of attachments there...and they look to be in great condition. May you have many happy stitching hours together!

What a beauty.

thepolyparrot 04-24-2011 07:29 AM

How wonderful! :)

Isn't it curious what ends up in the drawers of sewing machines? A set of four nutpicks... funny. :)

I would love to try that Tack Master - how cool!

If all the pieces are present, you're going to love playing with that hemstitcher - it does the most beautiful detailing on linen! You draw a few threads out of the area that you want to hemstitch and run that line of drawn threads through the hemstitcher, first on one side of the line, then on the other. The stitching holds the fabric firm so that the "holes" stay open - it's very pretty!

A little tricky on that jackrabbit model 15, but even as uncoordinated as I am, I did it, so I'm sure you'll do it, too. I used it on curtains, but it's an heirloom detail on all kinds of linens, blouses, baby clothes, etc. If it turns out that you like the effect, you can slow your machine down with a $20 router controller from Harbor Freight - makes it easier to keep the fabric lined up so that the puncher is going into the same hole on the second pass as it did on the first.

How exciting to have all the vintage attachments to play with! :)

cabbagepatchkid 04-24-2011 08:46 AM

Wow!! She looks in great shape....for her age...lol! :-D

I don't have a model 15, yet, but have heard really good things about them for FMQ. What I really like about your mom's machine is that you can see where the decals are worn on the front right hand side. That is where your moms arm must have rested as she was guiding her fabric through. I hope it makes you feel as if she is with you as you sew on it.

What a special machine! It is awesome that you have all of those attachments for her too :D:D:D
