Judy Martin's log cabin instructions are excellent. In my opinion she's the queen of log cabins, with at least 3 log cabin books in print. I do not like EB's method, although many people do.

There is a log cabin ruler also that I heard was very good. Haven't tried it myself but I think you use it to trim the blocks after each row. My issue with LC was the strip kind of bowed when Inpressed it.

This is how I did my first Log cabin quilt. Went to quilt shop with the pattern and they helped me pick out fabric, it turned out beautifully!!!!!!

We've made two using Eleanor Burns' Log Cabin in a Day. Not as intricate as some, but easy to do and picking colors was straightforward. If you think you are going to have trouble, I would start there.
