About a week ago I mentioned getting this sewing machine at the auction for $10. It is a Kenmore and came with the cabinet. I finally got the chance to try it out last night and it works beautifully!!

the fabric was another fine. My daughter and I split it and it cost of $5 each! We both got approximately 100 yards!!! All cotton too!! I think I got her hooked on this auction. She wants to go again!!

I used my camera phone to take the pictures so they are not as clear.

sandpat 07-06-2009 04:46 AM

Yea, it works beautifully!!! That makes it even better! Great deal on the fabric too!

kwhite 07-06-2009 04:49 AM

Wonderful buys on the fabric. What will you ever do with all of that?

Esqmommy 07-06-2009 04:51 AM

What a deal!! How fun. How did you find it? I hear about these things after the fact!

marsye 07-06-2009 05:15 AM

In my area, there is an auction every wednesday. It is mainly outdoors and if you go early enough you can see everything that is there. I also got a treadle machine one time for $20, plus an antique rocker recliner that I am having problems finding the era it is from. It has the fold out foot rest also. My plans are to redo the whole thing. Since I do upholstery work it won't be a big deal to replace the fabric on it.

I love going to the auction, but there is so much stuff there that I want to get...........I would go broke.......but the stuff there goes so cheap and you can get some really good buys. Once I went and got some hose reels. The guy told me that I also got a sofa, chair, scales, fold up chairs, mirrors and all that for just $10. I plan on recovering the sofa and chair.

WOW, GREAT FINDS. That machine looks like one I had years ago although my cabinet wasn't as nice as yours. And all that fabric for $5. You really cleaned up. May in Jersey

tlrnhi 07-06-2009 06:04 AM

WOW! There's NEVER anything like that here!

Mplsgirl 07-06-2009 06:10 AM

That is so cool that you have auctions like that. It would be deadly for my bank account if I were to one.... I'd love to see the furniture pieces after you recover them.

Stitching4Fun 07-06-2009 06:24 AM

Thanks everyone..............I could go wild at these auctions. There are so many things that I see and want, but limit myself. My bank account would be empty if I went every week.

Fabric isn't there all the time, and we just lucked out this time, but I keep my eye out for lots of things.

Amazing bargains, I am very envious. And the fabric was all lovely colours and patterns too, not 'designs from hell'. We look forward to seeing all the prducts of your efforts.

pittsburgpam 07-06-2009 07:10 AM

Wow, great finds! I've been to an auction with my DD a few times but never seen any fabric, it's mostly been antiques.

Quilt4u 07-06-2009 07:14 AM

Wow!!!! Very nice.

beachlady 07-06-2009 07:36 AM

Sounds like a fun thing to do once in awhile. Nothing like that around here. There are outdoor flea markets in the spring/summer/fall, but I have never gone. Maybe I will sometime.

littlehud 07-06-2009 10:36 AM

Great buys. What a find.

Darlene 07-06-2009 11:17 AM

You made a wonderful haul the fabrics are great.

sewjoyce 07-06-2009 03:59 PM

Wow -- all that fabric AND a nice machine!! You hit the jackpot for sure!

Carol W 07-09-2009 05:16 AM

Wow!!! Good for both of you!!! :)

Pam S 07-09-2009 05:51 AM

That Kenmore looks like the one I bought in college (mid-70s). I still have it and use it even though I've got 4 other "better" machines. It's all metal and heavy and sews through anything! Don't have a cabinet for mine. You got some great deals.

Debbie1 07-09-2009 06:17 AM

Great finds!

Joan 07-09-2009 06:22 AM

WOW------you did great!

What a wonderful find, sometimes you get real lucky!
(Isn't it fun---I always thik I must have been a gypsy in my "last" life, I enjoy treasure hunting so much. A garage sale sign always means, I hit the brakes. We haven't been to any auctions for a long time. We used to go regularly and buy really good "stuff". But then we moved...)

Shorebird 07-09-2009 07:32 AM

Barb, Where on the Eastern Shore are you? I was born and raised in Cambridge.

chamby 07-10-2009 09:21 AM

I am so jealous and heart broken about your find. I have a machine just like this one. Mine is not in a cabinet. I am heart broken because in a move years ago I lost the attachments for this machine. I have not been able to find replacements anywhere. Sears does not make these any longer. I have even checked on E-bay without any luck. Please enjoy the machine. It is a wonder machine.

quiltsRfun 07-10-2009 09:28 AM

You did great at the auction. That machine looks very similar to my old Kenmore which I totally loved. I reluctantly gave it to my daughter after I got my new Viking. But only because I don't have room for two sewing machines. It's a real workhorse. Never had a bid of trouble with it. Just wanted a machine with more options.

sunnyhope 07-10-2009 09:41 AM

you can buy fabric for me if ur bored, lol

Boston1954 07-10-2009 12:26 PM

Boy am I jealous!! That is one major find. Have fun with your treasure.

JoanneS 07-11-2009 07:40 PM

Barb - you and your daughter really have a knack for auctions!
I have a weakness for wing chairs, so I love yours. Please post a picture after you re-do it and the couch.
Have fun with your 'new' Kenmore and stash.

pocoellie 07-12-2009 04:04 AM

What a great buy!!! I love auctions and have gotten some great deals, they're one of the very few things I miss at our new location.
