My Bernina walking foot quit on me! :(
I thought that I may have bent it or wasn't attaching it properly - needles kept breaking - so I took it to my LQS and the dealer tested it and found that it wasn't engaging - she said that it may have just worn out! I didn't want to order another but had no choice since I was in the middle of a project and had to get it done. It was old but I didn't know that they could break or wear out.
Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Do you know if they are fixable?

Holy cow, I have had mine for 15 years, at least, and I use it alot! I paid $80 for it and I am hoping to get my $'s worth out of it. I figure another 50 years should about do it. By then I probably really won't care if my fabrics are feeding evenly, but I WILL still be quilting.

I do brush mine off for lint and oil everything that looks like it needs oil.

I would think everything and anything will/could break or wear out. If you don't think so, just think why people need hip and knee replacements. Transplants also, just my thought on it all.

Sadly yes they do break and wear out , usually when you need them the most :?

I picked up the new one yesterday so now I'm ready to stitch :) - unfortunately my fabric budget will be extremely limited to only essentials for awhile. Oh well, life has its ups and downs ;) - get to use my stash!! :)

If it is mechanical, it will wear out :wink:

It is frustrating to have our wonderful tools wear out. And they always do just when we need them most.

My story is worse. I had a brand new Bernina walking foot and was using it for the first time on a pin-basted quilt. I missed a pin and missed seeing that the back of the walking foot had got caught on the pin. It broke a spring inside the foot. Took it back to the Bernina dealer and all they did was offer to sell me a new one at full price. (I bought another one elsewhere.) My dh could probably have fixed the old foot if I could have gotten a replacement spring for it. Suppose there isn't much demand for them, though.

I think that may have happened to this one. I don't think there is much interest in selling the parts to fix, besides, now I have a new foot that is ready to go :)

I had a walking foot quit on me after about a year. My friend (who can fix ANYTHING) looked at it and said it was the bearing. Got another one and things have been moving right along.
