She's beautiful! :)
You should write down her history and stick it in her case somewhere....I'd love to know the names of the women that owned my machines before me... |

Wow - great find. As a child, I remember going to visit "Aunt Kate", not a relative, but great family friend, who sewed on an old Singer treadle machine. She made the best "stuff", including patchwork aprons in the shape of a tulip and clothespin hangers th at looked like dresses. I loved to go visit her and hear her talk about her past. A fascinating woman.

"Lizzie" (named after my maternal gma who taught me to sew) was born in Elizabeth, NJ in 1926. The book they gave me says she's a 128-3. I haven't had time to play with her yet, but when I test drove her at their place last night I could tell the tension needs adjusting and she really needs a new needle. She was really thudding loud when it went through the fabric. They took her to their house in Florida, but they sold it, so they no longer need the extra machine. The guy said when their daughter sewed on it she only knew 2 speeds. Wide open and stop. lol I probably won't get a chance to do much with her till next week, as Sunday is my dgd's graduation open house and I still have to finish her quilt for that.

Very nice machine, and how sweet that you made a connection with the couple. I have a 99 just like that, including the knee lever controller. I haven't sewed on her yet.
Wow! Here's to many happy sewing hours!

Great find. Enjoy your new machine.
I tried checking by the serial number and all I could find was the year it was made.
Congratulations!
It looks like an older 99. It didn't appear to have reverse on it. It is a honey...I sew on mine all the time.
I'm glad the machine has found a good home. I hope you will enjoy it!
No, there is no reverse on it.
great find-have fun sewing with it
FAB!

Nice machine, enjoy
Great find. Happy sewing.

Just beautiful...congrats
Sweet deal!
Wonderful buy. Have FUN
Mine's a little different than yours because I have a lever and when up bring the lever up and it goes in reverse. Take the lever back down and it goes forward.
I love your machine. I especially love that you got to meet the people who owned and loved the machine...it makes it that much more special!

Does it have a number on the front, below the singer emblem?
I saw one that looked similar but in a cabinet at a vendors mall yesterday. It wasn't in the best shape but not bad either. It had the number 10 on the front and G8701526 on a metal plate on the bed of the machine. I couldn't get close enough to it to really check it out, so much stuff was piled on it. I did notice the throat plate was missing and it didn't have any bobbins or attachments of any kind with it. The cabinet front of the cabinet was a door that opened with space inside the door ofr thread and etc. The tag in the door said, Stradivaro Cabinet. It was electric and had a knee press for the control inside too. It was priced 75 dollars which I thought to be a little high but I don't know that much about the old machines. I left a message for the owner to call me to see if it worked or not. Does anybody have any suggestions. I PM'd Billy but I know he is busy and may be days before he gets back to me. I would like to know something since I think they will probably be in the mall over the weekend. Thanks for any help. sassy granny |
Enjoy your new machine.

Don't you just love these old machines. Great find. Barb

Oh, sew cute :-)
sewnbug, This looks a lot like my recent buy of a 128 but with the regular bobbin. Mine has the shuttle bobbin. Anyway, if you go to this site:
http://www.singerco.com/support/mach.../double-letter you should be able to get the information that you want. If you look on the right side of the page where the red column is, you can click on letters that are found on your serial number and it will take you to a new page. That is where the info. will be for your machine ... year it was made, how many were made, etc. Have fun with the newbie. |
Thank you. I went to that page before but didn't see the right side to click on the double letters. Mine is a Model 99 and was made Dec 21, 1926. I still haven't played with it yet. Have to get through my granddaughters graduation open house tomorrow, then I can play with it next week. :-)
