Lone star has lots of bias edges, so make sure you starch your fabric before cutting and don't handle the pieces a lot. Also, when using the ruler to cut the angle, align the edge after every cut. Restraighten if you have to. Again....wish I had known all that before I started mine. |
The ones that are made by strip piecing are EASY. I made one when I was a real newbie and it turned out great. Didn't think to take pictures though. You can do it, you are a quilter.

There were just some Lone Star Quilt tops in the Buy/Sell/Trade Classifieds. Good Prices...not sure if they have sold though.

My mother bought a lone star quilt top off of Ebay. She decided it was more than she could do to add the corner pieces and triangles. It has very pretty colors, but the closer we looked, the more wonky it was. The diamonds were different sizes, the center would not lay flat. Needless to say, I had to take it all apart, recut some of the diamonds, and replace all the center diamonds. It looks much better now. Ready for quilting. My advice is make one of your own, you'll learn a lot, many books out there with instructions, along with all the friendly helpful advice here.

I believe you can do it!!! Just take it one step at a time. I love Eleanor Burns' methods -- she makes complicated things so simple.

Check out the Quiltsmart site. They make a fusible kit for a lone star. Bought one at the Houston Show, but have not tried it yet.

I made the quilt using Eleanor Burns book. It was actually started when I was a fairly new quilter and I did not have trouble with the star. Y seams to add backing around star was a little more difficult but not impossible if you take your time. Mine top sat for a long time because I did not like white background with colors of star (as new quilter I was struggling with color issues). I finally replaced background with off-white and finished quilt about 4 years later, gave it to my daughter for her bed. So a fairly new quilter can do this.

Jan Krentz has a book called Lone Star Quilts and beyond that might be a help. If the LQS no longer carries it try amazon.com You might be able to get it there. She really has some good directions.
