My DUH Moment

Bet everyone but me knows this. It has always annoyed that my needle unthreaded (is that a word), whenever I used my thread cutter. Just tried raising the presser foot then cutting. It's worked prefectly the 10 times i've tried it.

tesspug 08-06-2014 06:43 PM

Do you mean the automatic cutter on the machine. Mine won't cut unless the presser foot is down. If I try it beeps.

Ah -- the little tricks we learn! Thanks for sharing.

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 08-06-2014 07:00 PM

I leave my foot down but spin the wheel until the needle is up.

redneckwoman 08-07-2014 02:46 AM

My will not cut unless the presser foot is down

Onebyone 08-07-2014 03:50 AM

I have the Brother 1500 and the manual and the dealer said don't use the cutter without the foot being down. What machine do you have? If you have the Brother 1500 there are a few fixes to stop the needle from coming unthreaded.

Geri B 08-07-2014 07:13 AM

My BL does the same thing....I hate it.....so I have gone back to L&Es...get two for the price of one that way!

Mariposa 08-07-2014 07:22 AM

Ah, those darn new fangled machines! ;)

pokeygirl 08-07-2014 07:26 AM

I have a Janome 7700 and use the automatic cutter all the time and my needle has never unthreaded. I leave the presser foot down.

loisf 08-07-2014 07:42 AM

My Janome 6600 won't cut unless the presser foot is down. Never comes unthreaded. Maybe there is an adjustment that can be made.

true4uca 08-07-2014 07:59 AM

Oops, forgot to say I have a Juki 2000Qi. It doesn't happen on my Juki 600.

ManiacQuilter2 08-07-2014 11:01 AM

I sewed on my friend's Janome 6600 and I couldn't help break the old habit of foot up first!!!

You are NOT alone !!! :)

Amazing what technology teaches us ~! ;-)

Carly in SC 08-08-2014 04:22 AM

It is an adjustment your tech can make that will leave thread long enough.

sewbizgirl 08-08-2014 04:28 AM

If mine unthreaded every time I used the thread cutter, I would take it back to who I bought it from. I use my thread cutter constantly and the foot has to be down.

Kitty10628 08-08-2014 06:28 AM

I have no idea if I have the foot up or down when I use the thread cutter!

maggie_1936 08-08-2014 07:56 AM

my presser foot needs to be down

I have to try this out, I used my thread cutter "once" since I got my new machine & it unthreaded the needle too, I hope my machine will let me do it

My 6600 comes unthreaded hmmm. Maybe someday I'll figure out some way. Ya know where theres a will.....

Jannie 08-08-2014 08:13 PM

It probably needs a slight adjustment. Take it back to your dealer and it should be an easy fix for him.

JustAbitCrazy 08-09-2014 12:58 AM

My Babylock won't cut the thread unless the foot is down, and the only time it comes unthreaded is if I use specific brands of threads. Other specific brands of thread work fine every time. So I'm guessing your machine is fussy about brands of thread, and there should be brands which do not unthread. Experiment with a variety of brands of thread. For me Gutterman thread works great, as do some others.

nstitches4u 08-13-2014 05:14 PM

My Ellisimo raises the presser foot automatically after the cutter cuts the thread. I've never had a problem with the needle comim-ng unthreaded.
