Well, here is my rant:
I bought a quilt kit last year, because the free pattern was so gorgeous. This was a splurge for me, and I bought extra fabric so I could add a large border to make it a bigger quilt too. Assuming that Benartex is good quality fabric, I thought this was a sure bet for success. I can't remember working with such cheesy fabric ever before! A lot of the fabric quarters are stripes and plaids. Guess how distorted they got in the prewashing? Can't fix it with ironing either. What a pain to cut the strips for this LOG CABIN pattern!!! Now I am trying to piece it and it moves all over the place, like it was made with elastic or something. I will have to stop and spray starch and iron every segment for this to turn into a quilt that looks decent. My Irish temper wants to wad it up and throw it in the fire, but I will persevere. Lesson learned! Don't buy Benartex, and don't buy fat quarter kits with plaids and stripes! |
I am surprised you are having trouble with Benartex. Most quilt shop qualtiy Benartex is wonderful to work with.
Im sorry you are having trouble with your project... |
I'm sorry. Can you call the place where you got it and tell them the trouble your having? Maybe they will some how 'fix' things for you...Sorry. :(
|
I would sure let them know how much trouble you are having with their product. They should make it good for you. I've always had good luck with their fabrics. Let us know what you find out.
|
I've never had troubles with Bernatex fabrics. Maybe somehow they put lower quality fabrics in the kit. Sorry you are having so much trouble with it!!
|
I didn't want to give anyone a bad name, and she really is a sweetheart on the phone, but Kaye England did not offer much help when I emailed.
Since this kit is a year+ old, I guess there is no way to replace it fabric-wise. As I said, Lesson Learned! |
:( That's just awful. Hopefully you can move forward without to much trouble and "get'r done!"
|
I buy kits with high quality fabric sometimes (including Benartex), but I've never had a problem. Sorry you had such a disappointing experience.
|
Oh, I hate that you are having a problem. I have used Bernatex before and not had any trouble. I even sometimes shop specifically for it by brand name because I know that I like the quality. Hummmm...must have been something for that kit. I'll have to admit that i haven't bought any plaids or stripes. I think I make my quilts difficult enough without adding that burden to my plate
Hope you can finish it without loosing your sanity. Good luck! When can we seee a pic? |
I've had that happen with plaids before, and it is so aggravating. Now, when I use plaids or stripes, I try to put solid colors next to them to distract from any unevenness. Another thing I've done is re-cut the fabric to align with the stripes, and just deal with it not being on the grain. I doubt if a kit would give you enough extra to do it that way.
