Wow. That is intriguing, Carrot. And so logical. But how do attach the outer thirds when it comes time to quilt them?

your quilt top and backing are still in one piece-- it is only the batting you cut a third away on each side-- so only the batting you have to reattach.. does this make sense ?

OK, so it's just the batting that you cut away, but when you reattach it, do you just add it into the sandwich and keep on quilting or do you join the batting with ZZ stitching? I imagine that would be terribly awkward ... so I guess not. Just curious!

I hand stitch the batting pieces back together. trying to do it with the machine would be alot of weight would probably stretch everything out of wack .

A walking foot and a foot that has the flange on the edge helps alot.

Sometimes I enjoy the quilting process and sometimes I hate it. It all depends on how the top pieced, was it a horror from the beginning or did it go together easily? I find that my attitude can be a major part of the whole process.

If I have bad vibs about a quilt, and have the time, I put it aside for awhile to clear my head, then reapproach it with a better attitude. Sounds silly, but for me, it works.

Thank you, the ironing board hint is very helpful. I hadn't thought about it but that was one of the annoyances, even thought my first quilt is only lap size. Thanks again for your hint and encouragement!
