My friend has told me that she mixes liquid starch with water in a spray bottle, and when she presses her fabric before cutting, she uses this mixture and presses. Does anyone else do this??? Using mixture of liquid starch. Does it have the same effect as spray starch ??

I prefer mixing my own starch. It is way less expensive than the cans and you can mix the starch as weak or as strong as you need. Also, if you are wanting to pre-shrink your fabric this is the way to go.

I use it all the time. It is better than spray starch, as far as I know. I mix the liqued starch and water either in equal parts for stiff, or 1/3 starch to 2/3 water depending on what I want to do with the fabric. Then after I wash my fabric and dry it in the dryer, I spray the starch mixer on the fabric. I roll the fabric up and place in a plastic bag for about an hour. Then I iron. Now my fabric is ready for use. I do this with all my fabric for quilting.

As a rule of thumb, what is a good ratio on the mix. 1-1, 2-1, 3-1, ect. I usally buy the canned stuff, but it does make more sence to mix your own. I just don't want to over do the amount of starch.

Love it! Hubs likes 'heavy starch' on his suit shirts and I mix my own for this. Also consider it quite 'green' since you aren't throwing all those aerosol cans into the dump! :)

I may sound dumb ...but what is the name of a popular liquid starch and where do you get it?

I usually just use the spray kind. It's more expensive but easier.

I use both canned and bottled starch, it depends on the project, what I have on hand LOL and how much fabric I need to starch at a time :D:D:D
