Now to find a repair man. I have never had my little brother in for anything. I know I will need to get my "big brother" in one of these days but I haven't had it long I wonder if the place where I got "big brother" at will take care of the Janome! hmmm, maybe another phone call.[/quote]

Make sure that they are certified for Janomes.

Stupid question I know...but....I know there are several certified dealers in the area, if they are a certified dealer does that mean that they also have a certified repairman? or how do I go about finding a certified repairman in the area? Is calling and asking the best way? how do I know for SURE that they are certififed and not just telling me that they are because they can? There is a difference between being able to fix something and being certified to!

Check with your local Janome repairman, they should be able to access more information about it for you.

Janome is the parent company to New Home Sewing machines. Some dealers still show the New Home signage.

Certainly you could call them and ask. I would hope that they would tell you the truth. The other option is to contact Janome and ask them which dealers in your area have certified repairman. They would know.

Hi, I just saw your message about a vintage Janome.

I belong to a Vintage Singer Group from Yahoo where they discuss machine repair and identification, including repairing a cabinet, etc. By no means it the it set up as well as this group.

They have just started a new group which people who have a machine that is not a Singer may join. You can get a lot of information off of these groups. Even the singer group gives some general information which should cover most machines, including yours.

If you are interested in the non-singer group, check out the following:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Vintag...gMachineRepair

The Singer Group is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vintagesingers/

I hope the information you find on these sites will be of help to you. They have been to me.

I have a Kenmore that was made by Janome that is 22 yrs old. Never had a problem with it to need fixing.....just had it cleaned a couple of times by a local repairman.

The porcelain insulator in my 301A foot control broke and the control would not work. I found a replacement on ebay. You might check there. There are also some on-line shops that sell replacement foot controls and feet. They have reference lists so you can see which feet fit which machne. Good luck and happy hunting.

I think it is the perfect gift. It was free, it is useful, and it doesn't cost much to maintain. He can't possibly object to it. Congrats on getting the family heirloom with so many memories attached to it. Wouldn't it be wonderful to teach your children to sew on it. Be sure to record it's history and keep it with the machine.
