Is my Janome DC1050 headed for the trash?
My Janome DC1050 started skipping stitches and cause birds nests on the back of the fabric. I took it to a repair man who told me that since the plastic hook and hook assembly were broken the machine could not be fixed. Should I take it to another repair shop or is it really not fixable?

if you like the machine, get a second opinion. Some "unfixable" machines can be fixed, but some repairmen don't want to bother with a less expensive machine . The newer, lightweight machines are considered disposable by some repairmen. I suppose in some cases the repair may be as much as the machine is worth.

I agree with bakermom, find another repairman. I would look for the oldest shop in town and see what they say.

You can get a new hook and hook assembly ..might even be able to request metal if you have that option..doesn't hurt to find out the cost of a repair to see if it would make sense to fix it or put the money toward another machine.

To replace it will cost about $350 - a repair is going to start at $80 + parts around here. So I think I would get a second opinion too. Do you have a Janome dealer in your area? How old is your machine, are you looking for a reason to get a new machine? If so, then now is the time.

Most of the shops around here want $129 or $139 to service. I honestly don't think it's worth it since the machine was only $350 three years ago. I hate to just throw it in the trash.
