a "thunking" sound whenever I sew more than two pieces of fabric. Anyone have any idea what could cause this. I've changed the needle, rethreaded, checked the bobbin, etc. It's annoying but other than that it seems to sew fine. It just started doing it lately. Help! I'm tired of listening to it. :-(

Did you clean out the bobbin area and maybe oil it? I don't know if that will help or not.

Can you tell what part of the machine it's coming from? Is it a mechanical or computerized machine?

Mine needs a drop of oil under the bobbin when it gets noisy.

It may need to be serviced professionally. About $100, but cheaper than a new machine.

It's a computerized Brother ES600. I don't think it's supposed to be oiled.

Maybe try changing the needle again?? There could be a burr on the needle making the noise.

You'd better find out from your tech or dealer for sure!

I think they tell us that to force us to pay for simple maintenance. If a machine has moving parts that rub on each other, it needs oil &/or grease.

Does it have a drop in bobbin? If so, does it have a little hole with fuzz in it? If it does, that is a wick & it needs a couple drops of machine oil every so often. I have an Elna 7200 and it is definitely happier if it gets oiled after every project.

If it is a self lubricating machine, do not use oil. The parts are embedded with silicone and oil will cause damage. Check your manual or call a Brother rep. to find out if you need oil anywhere if your manual doesn't say. Try a new needle usually a dull needle will make a thunking sound.
