My border:

I decided on pinwheel blocks. I have already made about 40
8-inch blocks.

(Remember this is my first quilt and I'm winging everything without a pattern. I just made and made till I said oh this looks good. Oh this is big enough  ) (and I'm the one who decided after doing sashing I wanted cornerstones).

So what I can't figure out is....the sides of my quilt are all 92 inches. 8 into 92 is 11.5. How do I do this? At first I though fine...I'll make a 4 inch block. Then I though no....that won't fit onto an 8 inch block. ?????????????????????????????????????

What do I do? I know....I'm thinking I should have measured my quilt first and THEN decided how big the border blocks should be! I ALWAYS figure it out AFTER!!!!!!!

Is this the same quilt you posted, the one that didn't have the cornerstones?

What if you added sashing...?

What I mean is, use 11 blocks (as opposed to 11.5), and add sashing JUST around the block that lands in the corner. That way you're not screwing with cutting blocks in half and you make up the length you need.

Oh, I just thought of something - Your blocks are 8"? Are you accounting for the seam allowance when you do your calculations? Then you'd *really* have 7.5" blocks (or are they 8.5" and WILL be 8" finished...)

Also, this quilt is going to be HUGE!

A photo of your quilt might help, but here are my thoughts.

Your 8" blocks will actuall be 7.5" after sewing together.

If this is the same quilt you previously posted a picture of, maybe you could add a little fabric in between each border block to make it work out. It's hard to say how this would look without seeing the quilt and border blocks.

the blocks are 8 1/2 unfinished.

Ok here are pictures: one picture shows one corner with border blocks and the other pic shows what happens when I get to that end...how it's not fitting right. You know, because I have to do things the HARD and WRONG way first.

If we learn by our mistakes, then I'll be an EXPERT by the end of this quilt....

I'm looking at your pic and thinking that perhaps you could extend/add to the two sashings that are perpendicular to each other so that they continue to the edges and then inside of that make a 9 patch cornerstone like the others that you made that will fit the space accordingly.

It's very pretty!!! :)

Yes, I agree. It looks like you could just continue the sashing that is already there, just to have the strips to come out and create a corner stone type deal with that one pinwheel in the corner. :)
