My Mother Hen.....so far!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Have been playing around with applique lately.....a lot!!! And I found this 16 in block of mother hen by Sindy Rodenmayer and wanted to do it---but I wanted to do just one for a wall hanging---and 16 inches is too small for a wall hanging!!! At least for me!!!
So I was playing around with my printer trying to enlarge the patterns (templates) (used a LOT of scotch tape) AND then I saw that my printer will do posters!!! Put one page in and out come 4!!! Uses a lot less tape!!!

Anyway this is as far as I have gone......it needs something more.....more than just a narrow black border (which is all I can come up with), but anything else.....some kind of border that won't take away, but add something to this!!
Right now it is just about 35 inches square.

Any ideas would be warmly welcomed!!!

I like the idea of a black border, but I think I'd add a narrow inner border of red between the black and brown to perk it up. This is a really cute design. I might even be tempted to applique a trio of eggs in shades of tan in the lower left corner overlapping the brown border -- as though they just tumbled out from beneath the hen.

That is cluckingly cute!! Great job and I would agree with a smattering of red. Just so adorable.

love your rooster, great colors

So Cute! I would add the red as a border and if that isn't large enough for your spot, then you could keep going with the chicken coop idea and maybe a few chicks down below.

You did a nice job on your rooster. I like the idea of a thin red border then a black border. It will set everything off nicely.

Sorry, no suggestions, but I love it!

Shouldn't a mother hen have some eggs? By the way, your sewing area looks much too organized.

I LOVE all of Sindy's (Fat Cat Patterns) applique designs.

I have been "collecting" saving her designs since 2006 or 2007.

In fact in the early days of the "scratching post" yahoo group
she used to announce a yearly offer saving ALL her designs for
the year onto a disc to have as backups. This offer was only for
the free designs and NOT the monthly BOM's.

The one BOM I didn't get was her Baltimore Blues. At the time I
wasn't all that interested in a BOM.

You did an AWESOME job on your "Mother Hen"

Thanks for sharing.

She is adorable, you can't go wrong with red or black, can't wait to see her finished!

Clicked right on to view...so very cute! I would add a black border which would set it off. Like
a picture frame. Great wall art for kitchen area.

Or a border of nests, one of eggs, one of chicks or even one of bugs???

Looks great to me. Good job.

She's just too cute! Your fabric choices are terrific! I agree, a touch of red but not too much of anything. She's almost perfect the way she is!

It's really, really cute.

Very cute Mother Hen. I too like the suggestion of a red border and some applique eggs. Nice work.

amelia0607 09-24-2013 06:09 PM

I think a small black border and then a larger red border - the color of the hangy down thingy. That's very cute!!
