My quarter inch foot wiggles.....
 

....which made for wonky blocks. Is there any way to fix the foot, or do I just spring for a new one? I have an older Janome. I will cut my blocks down to 8 inches as the 8 1/2 inch left 4 blocks not coming up to par. Not enough fabric to replace the blocks as the baby shower is next weekend. Just frustrated, thanks for letting me vent.

Can you redo a couple seams on those blocks? That is what I've done a few times in your situation.

Is the presser foot firmly attached to the shank?

The foot get wobbly on my old singer - the screw holding the foot to the shank would come loose and then the foot would get wiggly.

I have the same problem with the screw working loose on my walking foot. I FINALLY learned I have to check it frequently. :rolleyes:

Everything is tight, first thing I checked. I went back to the old faithful tape on the plate until I can get to the shop. I'll post pics of the new quilt as soon as it's done. Thanks for the replies.

I would suggest that the screw hole on your 1/4" foot has slightly enlarged with age, maybe hardly enough to barely even measure. Or the threads on your screw are slightly worn down. You could put a piece of electrical tape on one small part of the hole, then attach to the machine and see if that tightens the screw up enough to hold the foot securely. The cost of a new screw and foot isi probably cheaper than having a tap and die job done to redrill the foot and use a larger screw - plus it would foul up all of your other feet on that machine.

After I've said all of this, I would recommend going to Ebay and buying a new foot and a new screw. You will probably find it cheaper there than at the dealers.
