Hi my son is building a new house and my room (and bathroom) yea!!! are mine to decorate. do you have any suggestions on what color to paint it, and how to set up a place in a 11.5 x 12 ft room to do hobbies and quilt at. My bed is just twin size and I have a small wingback chair too.

Ask for a suite with bedroom, bath, and hobby room. One more room won't make that much difference if the house is being built from ground up. LOL. In my DD's guest room I have room to sew in there when I visit but the sound of the machine can be heard before everyone is up in the morning. That's annoying to them. Maybe ask for soundproofing in the inside walls of your room. It will make a big difference to you too, not to hear the house noise. A solid bed room door will make a big difference in noise reduction too. Have fun decorating!

Too late we don't have the money. I will have to make do. But thanks anyway,

Light colors reflect light whereas dark colors absorb light. To make your rooms look larger choose a light color. Also, having sufficient lighting will make it a happy place.

Lastly, if you really organize you sewing stuff (fabrics and notions), your space will feel spacious. Use what you have like bookcases for your fabric. Here is a link on how to fold your fabric for stacking using your ruler.

Have fun setting up your space, and take pictures so we can see, okay?

My bedroom is a "sand" color and I love it! You can accent with just about any color....reds, greens, yellows, just about anything.

Anything that can do double duty.
As for color that can be a personal choice. I am in the process of painting a hall (entrance) almost a wheat color, my studio is a pale green. I like the wheat color, looks like it will reflect light better. Both rooms have the ceiling painted the same as the walls. The trim seperates it.

Since the room will be a cozy-sized room, another idea would be to have shelving - the kind that are hung on the wall and not bookcase type things that sit on the floor. Of course you can have the kind that sit on the floor too, but shelving that does not take up as much floor space might really be of help. This way there would be more room for your sewing table, etc. As far as paint goes... gosh, I suppose whatever color makes you feel at home.

My guestrm is used as a sewing rm...I have a twinbed that is raised up so I can fit baskets underneath for sewing supplies...If you haven't gotten aa bed yet consider one with built in drawers underneath....I also have folding tables that can slide either under the bed or stored in the closet...Lots of shelves to hold supplies and a bookshelf that I put in the closet for fabrics. I have an over the door ironing bd which is perfect for when I need to iron just unlatch and there you go. Stacking trunks or suitcases for more stuff... Hope that helps...When I have co. it all goes away and you'd never know it was a sewing rm.

You've gotten some great suggestions - just wanted to say how wonderful you have this opportunity for a new space to live. I've had the opportunity to have my mother and my father-in-law live with us at various stages (not at the same time). I personally think it is very special to have the generations together. Enjoy your new home!

Good for you, I think that whatever you decide will be great for you to work in, to make your room less noisy, be sure to put in carpet, and place your machine away from a communal wall, and try to sleep in a little, your retired now I bet, so relax and enjoy your retirement
