My iron is plugged into a power cord and a small lamp is also plugged into same power cord. This way I know right away if I have left my iron on.

For those who are suffering with leaky irons -- stop using the steam function! Switch to a spray bottle instead. I haven't put water in my iron for years. Using steam while pressing seams open is an invitation to scorched fingers.

I have heard of this multiple times but all have been online. I do not know anyone in person.

even more complaints. Mine is about 15 years old. It leaks. I use it on rare occasions where I plug it in, iron something, and unplug it. I still iron some
clothing and it works fine for that. But always unplugged when done.

When I 1st started quilting I was "told" that quilters only use Rowenta's so bought one it didn't last long. But I kept on trying, another one that lasted 5 years till it started leaking. when my "new" one dies, no more Rowentas. Maybe I won't wait till it dies" after reading this.

I'm glad I found this board - NO Rowentas for me! Too scary.

I have my grandmother's old Black and Decker Easy Iron from the 80's that's still going strong. It's my backup iron. The one I use the most is an el cheapo that doesn't have an auto shutoff function (HATE auto-shutoff!! By the time I get back to the iron it's turned itself off and is cooled down. Then I have to turn it back on and wait. Grrr)

I have rheumatoid arthritis with the coinciding brain fog. I velcroed a power strip with a breaker onto my ironing board and plugged in a clamping overhead light and my iron. If the light is on so is the iron. This way it's easier for me to remember to make sure the iron gets turned off.
