It is finished and right now washing it to really give it that raggedy look.
As y'all will recall me mentioning couple weeks ago I take scraps of fabric and just start sewing. Some of these scraps I cut using my 8 1/2" rag die. I started sewing those rag squares yesterday and finished it up tonight. I must say I'm actually surprised at how well it looks. Wasn't sure I'd be able to pull it off or that it would even work. It's a 6 x 6 squares in size for total of 36 squares. The front has the scrappy sewed pieces and the back has various batiks mixed in. I did with the back line up the greens and the blues which forms an X with the rest blended in. I'm thinking of putting in 4 appliques on the reverse which where the blended batiks are.... either side up and down of the X lined ones. If I do go that route I will have to use a permanent non-sewing fusible like Heat N Bond since sewing in an applique most likely would ruin the front of it. Not sure what the design applique would be if I decide to go that route. If I decide not to than it will be what it is now. Once I have washed it a couple times I'll take photo's and upload it here. |
can't wait to see the pics!!!! I made tons of raggy quilts a few years ago!!!!

Very nice how it turned...we don't stop surprising ourselves :-D

Wow. Making a rag scrappy quilt is something I've not seen before. It turned out great!
|
Oh no another idea to put on my list. Very nice.
|
I love to do scappy and love to do raggy. Who would thought combining the two would turn out so good? Nice job!

Oh...I LOVE it. Beautiful bright colors too.
I've put the first and only one I made on the back burner for now. Still clipping seams...lol. Too many other things I want to make and finish at the moment. I promised myself after Christmas I will finish it. |
Just beautiful ... love the colors.
|
I love the scrappy rag quilt :)
|
VERY pretty! I guess a rag quilt is going to have to go on my to try list!

I'm not a sewer nor a quilter so if I can do this anyone can.
I'm self teaching myself to sew. The first rag quilt I made (doll one for GD) was awful looking IMHO. The second one was much better. Now this scrappy rag came out even better but than I love bright colors mixed in. It is more work sewing scraps first, than cutting it using the Go Rag die, and than sewing it again into a rag quilt but was well worth it. I am very pleased and pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. I forgot to mention that I wanted to also sew a decorative design on each scrappy square but it did not work well with the batting in between. It pulled it a bit through the back so ditched that idea. |
Really nice use of your scraps, the quilt looks great.
I've also made rags quilts using regular cotton fabrics, they don't fuzz up as the flannel ones do but they are nice and light and comfy. Like your idea of using scraps to make the blocks in the front - I have plenty of scraps and love it that these quilts don't need to be sandwiched and quilted. |
WOW!! Wonderful colors!!!!
|
love it. think I will do one ? well i will add it to the some day list.
|
How much fun was that! So bright, cheerful and obviously will be loved by some one for sure. Great job in using up those gorgeous leftovers.
|
That looks so cozy makes me want to borrow it right now since I am laying on the couch with a head cold. It is very pretty too, I love bright colors and batiks.
|
What a good idea. It turned out great!
|
I have not seen the 'go rag die'! How nice. Sure does beat all that clipping by hand. I love the bright colors. Nice job.

One year we chartered a bus to a quilt show and one of the women brought along her rag quilt to snuggle under as we traveled. It was made using Homespuns! I fell in love with it and made one from Homespuns as soon as I got home! I still love it! It fringed nicely with a finer type of fringe. Just a different look. I'm in Fla and the flannel ones tend to be too hot. The Homespun is just right! |

I think I've ordered all the Studio one's as well. Some I've received and waiting on rest. You can do a Take 5 using these Studio Rag dies which I can hardly wait to do so. |
What a happy looking quilt. I want one!!!!!!!

I'm going to make my own now. I love batiks and have a boat load so this will be perfect! I washed it after I made it and it makes it rag better. Wash it again and it will look even better than after the first wash. |
