To my surprise this morning there was a flyer for Walmart that fabrics are back in more than 2000 stores. I've seen several post here about fabric coming back but I never expected a ad from walmart to be published.

we get ads from Walmart every other week

A friend and I stopped by a new Super Center Walmart in Fort Stockton Texas. They do have a fabric department, but it is extremely small. But at least they do have one!

Lot of the stores are bringing it back.

Our Walmart never did lose their fabrics and now they are adding more. I do like what I see!

My closest Walmart has a few bolts of fabric again. Very messy department. No one actually working there, as usual. It looks like they threw the bolts onto the shelves and left. They didn't even sort them by color etc. I don't have high hopes.

Reports of the demise of the art of Quilting were greatly exaggerated! Our numbers are growing!

I agree with OCQUILTS. I've not seen any reports that the quilt industry is dieing. Yes, it did take an economic hit just like the rest of the country. But, according to shop owners, business is now on the upswing.

with the advent of intricate patterns and the special effects of hand dyed fabrics, more and more "young" people are taking interest in quilting.

Our local Walmart has brought back the fabric department, but so far I'm not impressed. It is about a quarter the size of the old department. What is really disappointing is you cannot pick out a focus fabric and find enough cooridinating fabric to make an entire quilt.

A couple of the ones I go to never lost the fabric department, and in fact have had a decent selection all along. A lot depends on the manager of the particular store and the person next up in the chain of command as far as how much emphasis they are willing to devote to it. Rumor has it that our area has managers with family members who sew/quilt.

As I posted earlier, I got a flyer here today in Carrollton, Ga and was so excited. We have a HL here and a Joann's about 30 miles away and I was hoping to have a more convenient location. The WM is across the street from my church and I went over to see....NO FABRIC WHATSOEVER and of course neither of the two employees I asked knew anything about it. I don't normally shop WM anyway but thought if they had fabric they might win me over as a customer !

from what I have seen in my recent travles. the stores that never lost the fabric have the larger departments. THose (like mine in OK) that lost the fabric and are getting the NEW ones. They are tiny, not manned, and the quality of the fabrics is less than poor! While I do not use WM fabrics in my quilts, I did like them for the home-dec holiday stuff! The fabrics I have seen in the last 2 weeks for holidays at WM is just terrible..it will never last more than a year if that! and the prices are NUTSO...

Their idea of bringing back fabric a our store is the 2 yard cuts on the pegboards. They are mostly solid colors 100% cotton and broadcloth. Most of it is already gone because of the amount you have to buy to make a quilt, and there aren't that many colors to start with. This is upsetting because the closest fabric/quilt store is an hour away from us. uuuuuuuuuuuuggggggghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!How do we pass on our complaints to the company?

write or emsil them. Haven't been in the walmart in Minot for so long. it takes forever to get around in it for one thing, another is there are not enough employees working so every line has 20 or more people in it waiting to check out. my legs and I don't do so well on concrete or in lines.

SUZAG 09-18-2011 01:22 PM

yeah, they were even passing it out in my store but no fabrics...bummer

You are very fortunate. I have a choice of three Super Centers and none carry fabric - so far. They used to.
