I just made my first fabric purchase online at eBay. I saw this fabric and it just seemed to glow, I fell in love with it. I bought 1/2 yd each of 9 fabrics. That should certainly be enough to make a quilt from.
Now I just have to decide what pattern to use. I have a spare bedroom that I just finished decorating in black, white, and yellow. The fabric in blue and yellow might be a nice accent. I'd like to do a quilt in feminine looking pattern... if you know what I mean. Any suggestions? I just love this fabric! My last decorating project. A blue and yellow quilt would look great. |
Okay...here's my 2 cents:))I would do a quilt w/all those colors together!! They are great and great all together! I'd buy more fabric and go to a black or a beige or a black and beige toile for that room. If it were me, it would be a black toile combo w/a hint of red for your spare room...which btw is great! You did a great job in there! Your blues and yellows are really sharp looking and make something for all of it and put it out for all to see when they come to visit. Just MHO....Skeat

PS...If you are absol. set on using that fabric for that room no matter what...I'd vote for the deepest blue on the left and farthest and lightest on the right...:))

I am no help to you, but I LOVE that cat picture you have on the wall!
|
I am so in love with those fabrics I went to ebay to buy them. Alas, my poor checkbook said "nope" so I'll just pine for them.
I'd add black/white toile and do a turning twenty or a sassy 16. The femininity of the room speaks for itself. The quilt doesn't have to be fussy. That's a great room, IMHO. I LOVE the cat pic too! |
Love the fabric. Isn't online dangerous shopping? It is toooooo easy to push that button.

Oh my what yummy fabric!!! and your room is beautiful. IMHO I think that the yellows and baby blues are too bright and would stick with the two end fabrics and/or the floral that is 3rd in from the right.
The first thing I thought of was a geometric design that would still have a feminine feel due to the fabric.....something like this....using just two fabrics. Of course you could do more scrapy. But you know....an applique quilt using all the fabrics might work too LOL. |
Oooohhhh, very pretty fabrics! I love them all and I love them all together. I say...use whatever fabrics make you happy. They will look great in that room (wish it was my spare room) and I do LOVE that kitty on the wall!! Have fun and be sure to let us see this quilt developing and growing!!

oooooooo pretty

Wonderful fabrics....the blues are great :D
|
I don't have any ideas for a pattern but I sure do love your fabric.
Nice room to make a quilt for. :) |
i love the color combination and my suggestion would be to find a block that could use 8 colors and use the ones with the room/bed colors the most in the biggest sections of the block. For example I looked at quilters cache and On Target Star could use 8 colors. http://www.quilterscache.com/O/OnTargetStarBlock.html

Beautiful room and gorgeous fabric. Love the first one on the left. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be great - can't miss with those fabrics!
|
Vrey nice. Just love them. I would make a Yellow brick road with them.
|
I to love your colors....no matter what you choose it will look good.....lot of blocks to choose from ...so I'm of no help.....sorry;-(

Yeah, maybe the blues would be a bit much in that room and be a distraction from the main colors and style. I have another spare room that is in turquoise, white and brown but it would probably look very green next to that blue. My bedroom has wheat color walls and I change my bedding around to whatever suits me so....
I like all of them together too so I was looking at patterns that would use 8 colors (great minds think alike). I found one that is very simple and my first reaction was it was too simple but then I thought... I always seem to pick complicated patterns and then takes me forever to make it. I figured out what fabrics each would substitute in this pattern. It's simple and would showcase the whole set. Is it too simple for such beautiful fabrics? I could buy yardage of one of them for the border. BTW... I saw that kitty picture online and it was so cute I had to click that button! |

Oh My... I love this pattern but I've never done anything like it. I was browsing and saw a giant dahlia pattern then I looked for a paper piecing of it and found one using EQ4, which I have!
How do you all think this would look with the blue and yellow fabric? |
Ooooo now that would be beautiful, but then I'm a sucker for Dahlia quilts....not that I've ever made one LOL.
|
I love the romantic feminine look and your fabric is perfect for this simple pattern.
It is called Summer Porch and it is in Quilts Through the Seasons by El Burns. There are several other feminine quilts in the book also. |
The room is fantastic, come do my sewing room? The fabrics are scrumptious ! I am sure that whatever your young talented mind decides, it will be beautiful...
|
Love the fabrics, I agree with skeat on the colors to be added.
Happy Quilting |
Oh that Dalia quilt is really beautiful. would look great in blue and yellow.

The color of the walls in your quest room look like the same color I painted my new sewing room. I like the touch of blak in your room.
Really beautiful room. |

My husband would probably throw a pillow at it every morning! |
I'm going to make a picture to hang on my wall with my cat in it just like the one in your room. I just love that picture!

Pam, your fabrics are beautiful and I so not think the 4 patch pattern is too plain and simple for them. In fact I think you should pick the one you like best--or another one in the line--and buy yardage for the border. It does not matter if the quilt "goes" in any of the rooms in your house. All quilts "go". Sometimes we just make one because we like the fabric or the pattern speaks to us. I think whatever you do it will be wonderful.
By the way, your guest bedroom is gorgeous and I love the chair rail and molding. You have inspired me to take my guest room to the next level!! |
I can see why that fabric called you. It's really beautiful.

That's my other hobby, decorating. I think it's an extension of a love of fabrics and colors and how they go together to make something pleasing to the eye. Now that I think about it, it comes together in much the same way. In quilting I might see one particular fabric and then build around it. In decorating I might see a particular furniture piece or accessory and get ideas about incorporating it.
For that guest bedroom it started with the paint. It was supposed to be beige but when I put it on the wall it was very yellow. Ok, I'll go with yellow but I didn't want pastels so I thought... black and white. I kept an eye out for anything in black and white when I was in stores and I would pick up a piece here and there. I got the black with polka dots and the striped fabric and made the bolster pillows. I saw the chair at a furniture store for $50 with a yucky pickled finish and painted it white, used the polka dot fabric to re-cover the seat. I wanted a black headboard and couldn't find one I was willing to pay the high price for so I made one out of wood I had and painted it. I found the yellow and grey floral fabric and made the square pillows. I bought the cat picture online. The champagne poster is from Michael's and the ones above the bed was a poster that I cut in half, framed each half, and hung side-by-side instead of verticle. I had all the frames from old pictures and painted them black. I did all of the chair rail and panel moulding (I have power tools and know how to use them) myself and framed the window. |
Beautiful room!

Love your fabrics. What did you decide to make with them

I made a giant dahlia with the fabric. It's still not done as I couldn't decide on a border. I finally did just recently and I'm working on the blocks for it, maybe half of them are done.
Luckily I was able to find a couple of the fabrics online to order more. I already had a lot of the background fabric. I hope to have it done this month and even though I just got a long arm machine I don't want to mess this up. I will probably have it done by someone on the board that does fabulous LAQ work. |
Very nice fabrics!!!

Some of my fabric fabrics have been purchased on ebay. These are gorgeous. Love what you've done with them. I'm bookmarking this thread so I can see the finished quilt.
