I can't believe it. I just got back from my local Super Walmart in PA. The one that was only built less than a year ago. I wandered back to look at the 2-yard pre-cut fabrics, and to my surprise I find a clearance bin & NEW racks for fabric!! How dumb is this. The old Walmart had fabrics, and they got rid of it when they replaced it with this Super Walmart (ditching all the cutting tables, racks, etc.), and NOW they decided that they want to change their mind back again and carry it (not that I'm complaining, mind you). I actually got a TON of the 2-yard cuts for $3 bucks a piece (only $1.50 per yard!).

Funny thing is, I just finished re-organizing my stash and swore I had WAY enough material. Well, how could I resist with such a great deal, right? Just kinda walked the bag into the house and straight to my sewing room. It was a good day. ha ha

so happy for you and looks like you got lots of new bargains today

All I kept saying to the employee was that there's been talk for a long time on my quilting board, and I'm SEW happy it was true. She said they should have it ready by the second week of September.

Hey Nancy P, maybe you need to get a petition started. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, ya know. ha ha. Every single time I went in the old Walmart I always made it a point to complain to the manager.

I bought a few yards for a quilt that I did not want to spend a lot of money on...three seem really good but the black material is very thin. Really check out the material prior to buying. The quality still is not as good as the LQS but half the price. Its good for baby quilts since they only use them for the first year or two.

I agree, but it really seems like depending on the fabric, it's all different qualities. I bought mostly bright fabrics, and even found a really neat horse print. I did see that the white was fairly poor quality, so I just passed. I figure they'd be fine for quickie throw quilts for the couch.

So happy for you :D:D:D

Just hope that you don't get disappointed - ours got the fabric back and it is horrible - could not buy two or three coordinating prints/solids to make a quilt with. Just some thin, sleazy fabrics, along with some random flannels and some fleece. Now, nobody will be buying anything - so once again, they will take it out.

Oh, no! Why can't they understand the needs of the customer instead of doing things half-heartedly?? I'm really happy there's places like Connecting Threads to revert back to. I sure hope you're wrong about our Walmart.

Glad you're getting your fabric back. We never lost ours.

NikkiLu 08-17-2011 05:53 PM

Oh, and also, there is a sign on the little cutting table that says to go to the sporting goods desk to find somebody to cut your fabric. Seems that they can put somebody for the sporting goods desk - but not the fabric department. Go figure! I am sure that I will go to the sporting goods counter and find a man who will know what to do with a bolt of fabric to cut and price.

I went to a different wal mart today and their fabric department was pathetic. It used to pretty good. Wonder if it will improve since it sounds like wm is putting their fabrics back.

We have the pre-cuts also. It is very expensive, some almost $10.00 a yard. There is nothing on bolts. It is very disappointing, and I don't expect it will do well with sales.

hurray

Gramof6 08-17-2011 10:59 PM

I am very happy for you! We got ours back also but it is a lot smaller than before. And not near the selection. I am hopeful that it will grow. By the space allotted for it, it is doubtful. We shall wait & see. Ours never had the precuts. Once the word is out that fabric is back in, maybe they will stock more of it. As I said, there is always hope.
