Ok my daughters made fun of my wedding dress, lace lace and more lace with a hoop! you get the picture. anyhow they said there is enough lace there to make a dollie (sp) for the whole state of Ohio. I still don't know why they didn't want it for their wedding,ha!!! Now what can i do with it in quilt. Any suggestion?

Depending on the lace pattern, you could put it over solids to show off the pattern. Grandmother's Fan also comes to mind.

I made a quilt using fabric for this but the lace would be pretty too.
You could tie the gathers with ribbon or something else decorative. Each square could be different colors... |
My daughter didn't want my wedding dress either ( old victorian style, lace, lace and more lace) so I took it to a seamstress and and had Baptismal gowns made from it. I had one done for each of the children for when they had kids. We didn't have any family heirlooms, so to speak, but now, they each have one.
are you really sure you want to cut it up? |
I would save it and ask one of my granddaughters if they wanted to wear it. Tell your daughters that their daughters will make fun of their dresses one day too!
I like the Christening gown idea or a gown to bring the baby home from the hospital in.
I am actually going to cut up my mom's wedding dress and make a tote bag for my niece who is getting married in June. That way she will have a little of her grandmother with her including a lipstick stain which I do not plan to remove.
Actually, will probably make two as my other niece will get married someday as well. |

Hmmm... I can't figure out why the pictures are so small... sorry
One of my grandsons LOVED the feel of satin. He had a piece of satin that he dragged around until he was about three. (It was washable)
Why not take it to a seamstress and see if she can make a new gown out of it??? Like they did on Project Runway this year.
before you use it all up on other things. can you create a small picture of it, using the original fabrics and trims, for framing? that would become the heirloom. then you could attack the rest of the fabric knowing that the style was preserved in it's original fabrics. the baptismal idea is wonderful and i have done that for customers, as well as confirmation dresses. you could also make ring-bearers pillows and put them away for future use. just make sure to label everything with it's history. bouquet wraps and other accessories are all nice ideas. what about the veil? down the line, someone will be sorry.
I love the idea of making the dress into a baptism or christening gown. That is such a great idea I may have to do that to my old dress.
I think you should keep it....someday they might be glad you did.
When I was little, my mom made a beautiful bassinette skirt from her sister-in-law's lacey wedding dress. It went clear to the floor around the bassinette and was the prettiest thing. Maybe you could make one of those, or mini-versions for little girls play bassinettes.
Thank you great idea, I love it.

Dona,
Your quilt is exquisite! What a lucky baby. Audrey |

to tell the truth, why does anything have to happen to it? wait for the right moment and decide then. don't be talked into making a mistake just because they don't like it.
I always wanted to have a Christening gown made from mine...but my daughter did not have children.

like a beautiful quilted throw for your sofa or bed. Or a fabulous caftan for lounging.. or a nightie. Throw pillows for your bed?? How about pillow cases? If the fabric is satin you'll love the luxurious feel of it and satin cases keep your hair from tangling during sleep. You'll never use it again so do something fun with it for you. |
I did not know that about satin keeping your hair from tangling. I have long hair and I usually have to wear it up at night just to avoid that kind of problem. I'll have to keep this in mind and see if I can pick up a satin pillow case or two.
It works for me. I have short hair, but would wake up every morning with hair sticking out in all directions! I made a satin case for my pillow and love it.
