my birthday is coming up, if anyone (my husband) asks, i would like a new machine, my old one is dying, and if possible, some embroidery.
just in case he asks....

ann clare 03-17-2011 09:33 AM

Hope you get your wish

Mariposa 03-17-2011 09:34 AM

lynnie-since we have the same birthday, can I be on the list too-?? ;)

cjomomma 03-17-2011 09:42 AM

If your DH is anything like mine then you better come right out and say it. Mine doesn't take hints.

Or even better just take him shopping with you!

suezquilts 03-17-2011 09:43 AM

Yeah, I usually received something for my motorcycle, until he finished it, he used to brag and say he got me chrome for Birthday and Christmas.

Now... I just go out and get what I need....

Best wishes, Happy Birthday.

sharkee 03-17-2011 09:47 AM

Mine either. If I want something I am better off printing a picture and handing it to him and telling him exactly how to get to the store to buy it. But if I do that he is great about getting me what I want

MadQuilter 03-17-2011 09:49 AM

Most men don't take hints. They ain't programmed that way.

CarrieAnne 03-17-2011 10:04 AM

Hope you get a new one!

Dandish 03-17-2011 10:14 AM

Show him your post...;) LOL

quilter1943 03-17-2011 10:38 AM

That's true at our house too! This way I'm never disappointed and he comes out "smelling like a rose"!

Hope you get what you want. Last year my sewing machine gave up its last leg around my birthday--so I got my wish, a new sewing machine. (Hope you don't have to do anything that drastic to get one though.)

scowlkat 03-17-2011 01:16 PM

Send us his email and we will inundate him with suggestions! LOL! Imagine his surprise getting emails from all over the country/world telling him to buy you a new machine!

Same with mine. Write it all over on post-it's.. and subliminal messaging.

PaperPrincess 03-17-2011 01:38 PM

What is his email address? I'll just forward this post!

susanwilley 03-17-2011 02:07 PM

Maybe you can find pics of the one you want and leave them all over the house.

lsmft 03-18-2011 02:48 AM

On Long Island - go to 142 Medford Ave., Patchogue - Yesterday I brought my new Brother home(Laura Ashley NX-2000).
It's amazing, and the staff at 112 Sewing Supplies gave me 3 hours of EXCELLENT instruction. They said I can receive unlimited help in operating the machine, and I believe them - they are very professional and want to be of help. Something I did not experience last time I bought a machine somewhere else.

I was thinking the same thing! We can be the birthday fairies sending a message that, just in case he was wondering, we have a great idea for a BD present for he dear sweetheart!!!

stitchofclass2 03-18-2011 04:55 AM

Speaking of DHs (or men in general) you will enjoy this YouTube presentation called "The Nothing Box". It is very funny and too true in many cases.

Happy Birthday. I hope all your birthday dreams come true!

quiltaroni 03-18-2011 05:06 AM

My hubby is right on the ball he knows cash is always welcome.I must be honest and admit this took many many years of training.

mhansen6 03-18-2011 07:24 AM

What is his email address? I will tell him.

Lynneander 03-18-2011 09:35 AM

My husband pointedly will never, ever get something that has been requested. I find it better to just buy it myself and then be surprised by what he actually picks himself.

Good luck ... and early wishes for a wonderful birthday!

franie 03-18-2011 09:35 AM

Good luck.

IBQUILTIN 03-18-2011 09:42 AM

Mine never remembers my birthday, so he guilts himself into whatever I would like to have. I just giggle. He is so funny

Leave some pictures of the machines you are interested in laying about where he will see them. That works for my wife... Best wishes and an early happy birthday to you.

Mine wouldn't know a hint if it Literally grew legs and slapped him in the face!!!! But I still love him.

jitkaau 03-18-2011 05:10 PM

Does he read this message board? Steer him in the right direction...

BellaBoo 03-18-2011 05:23 PM

Go buy a present for yourself. I buy myself presents all the time. I'm making up for not buying myself anything when I thought it was being a good mom by doing without. Young moms out there....Do not fall in that mindset.

kjdavis4 03-18-2011 05:48 PM

One Christmas I had my eyes on a Pfaff, my first really nice machine. My husband is clueless about sewing machines and I wanted to make sure he got the one I wanted. I laminated the brochure the dealer had given me and I used it for my husband's placemat!!! I got my machine.

MerryQuilter 03-18-2011 06:05 PM

Fingers will be crossed for you.

donnalynett 03-18-2011 06:26 PM

I have stooped quite low at times.....buy what you want, gift wrap it and set it out and act so excited when you open it in front of him....be sure and thank him profusely!

Marysewfun 03-18-2011 07:14 PM

I usually suggest that I am looking for a (certain) machine on sale - and have found that I am best to stay in the driver's seat of finding it - his idea of getting a machine is from Craig's list. I overpower him with technicalities that my ideal machine should have that he says "go get it!

Melrose R 03-18-2011 07:18 PM

Happy Birthday! I hope your husband comes thru for you. If not, act surprised when you open your gift from yourself! LOL

Annz 03-20-2011 07:48 PM

Yea I hope you get your wish and don't forget to leave a few hints around

lynnie 03-24-2011 08:06 AM

thanks for all the suggestios, i went to 112 sewing, got a brochure, and put it under his dinner plate, and out right he said, that;s interesting, don't you have a serger and two others. i said yeah, but this one i can download designs, and you know how much your nephews love the embroidered things i make them, and then he switched the subject. we are going on a cruise in Novermber, but that's not my birthday waaaa waaaa. i'll try again after the quilt show , (april 2)
