Kinda new to quilting and I am curious . . . what is a mystery quilt and the point of it. I understand the step by step thing but is the pattern the mystery?

Yes the pattern, or what the finished quilt top looks like is the mystery. I've done a few and enjoy the process and waiting to see what it will look like in the end.
