Mystery Quilted 'pocket'
1 Attachment(s)
I have an older friend who has been quilting for a long time. I don't see her often but we do email back and forth. She found this 'quilted pocket' is the way she described it and said someone had given it to her years ago. She can't remember what it is used for. Would any of you have any ideas just by looking at the picture, as to what it is or was used for? Looks like there is a little tab on one side. I don't think it is a pot holder. Hopefully you can judge by her cutting mat, the approx size. Seems like folks always come through here on the QB. She will be excited for me to tell her what you think it is. The back side is just the dark purple all over.

Maybe to carry a paperback book?

A little pocket to put on a lanyard for keeping your credentials and money at a quilt show?

One of those bags to microwave a potato? Just a guess.

Nice to see guesses already. Even if we never know what it was originally for, she will love hearing all your suggestions. Keep up the good work!

Is that a zipper at the top? Maybe it's a bag to keep small supplies in.

I have one just a bit smaller that has 2 zipper pockets in it. In one pocket I keep my medical card, drivers license, and a credit card. In the other I keep various other store cards. The back has a window pocket, front has a stitched square. Love it! Have another different sized one that I keep tea packets in.

it looks like a purse of some kind. i'd use it to hold my supplies. Maybe embroidery supplies, quilting stuff or the like. I think it could be used for just about anything one wants to use it for.

I think that's a zipper I see on it. So it reminds of of something to store some sort of computer tablet in...unless this was made before computers!

This reminds me of the historical "huswif" women have carried for nearly 800 years to hold their precious sewing tools. It is usually worn hanging at the waist, from a belt, apron string, or other such thing.
Here are some images of antique and modern ones. https://www.google.com/search?safe=a...k1.bebMTFybmc0 Jan in VA (As this is a topic response, I ASSUME I am allowed to post this link here. If not, well then, I guess I'll be reprimanded.) |
