Name of this block?
1 Attachment(s)
I'm hoping someone knows the name of the block in this quilt.
Is it on quilterscache? Thank you! |
I tracked the picture to this blog, the author says it's a reproduction of a quilt seen in the Red & White exhibit, but there is no name given.
https://temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com...l#comment-form This quilt would be easy to do. I would take 2.5" strips, put it in the center of a block, then sew the opposite color on each side as corners, trim to size. Like a string-pieced block, but with only one diagonal string. You can see it illustrated here: https://www.quilterscache.com/S/StripedSquareBlock.html Make it the same way, only instead of using strips in the corners, just use one fabric. |
It’s an Hourglass block with sashing. You can find variations on the Hourglass block on YouTube from Missouri Star Quilt co. also.

Here's a link to the same basic block. Just leave the sides plain.
Signature Block (quilterscache.com) One difference, the strip in your pic is narrower than in this pattern. But this at least gives you the idea. It'd be easier to do it as blocks, with the strip on each, than to do as QSTs with sashing strips, as Tartan has suggested. IMHO. Then just do your layout to get the pattern. A very effective and pleasing quilt. The simplicity of it, speaks volumes. |
Thank you for the responses. I like the paper pieced option the best, I think. Just shows that there's more than one path to success.

It's a block that Eleanor Burns did years ago I made the quilt but cannot think of the name, however if you check her You Tube channel you will see it. I want to say it's called Summer Porch but can't be sure, sorry.

Here is the Eleanor Burns Summer Porch pattern. (There is a video on the page that shows lots of details.)
