Name for this pattern?
I saw this quilt on etsy and wonder if there is a name for the pattern.
https://www.etsy.com/listing/2524837...uilt?ref=hp_rv Also, can quilt patterns like this with squares and rectangles be designed in EQ 6? Thanks |
I don't know the name of the pattern, but it looks easy. I am sure that could be designed in EQ6.
|
It looks similar to the one tallchick posted this week under the thread -I love big blocks. She gave the name of the pattern as Patio from Happy Zombies.
|
I have seen that pattern and it isn't quite the same.
|
I know that EQ7 is the latest program, but I have EQ 6 and really don't know where to start to design quilts like this.
|
It looks pretty close to Modern Rose Garden, albeit with a border:

It might be her own pattern. There's a similar pattern on moda bakeshop.
You can draw it on graph paper if you don't know how to use EQ. I would start with a 8 or 9 or 10" square for the big one. The triangle width plus side of the square plus sashing should total the big square. Hope this helps. Forgot to insert the link. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/09/...pal-quilt.html |
Thank you ecmoore - It's very similar, but not the same.
|
Thank you EasyPeezy. I did see that quilt on Moda Bakeshop, and will use it as a example for the quilt I'm interested in if I can't find the pattern. I think the quilt that I linked to is made with a layer cake.

I have this one on my bucket list. It is very similar. I think it might work with a slight modification.

Couldn't find a name but it reminds me of the Big Block patterns.
Would also be easy enough to make. Just cut 10 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangles and 2 - 4 1/2" squares and join with 2 1/2" sashings. Alternate these blocks with a 10 1/2" square block |
Thank you dottie dodge for the pattern. There are four different blocks in the Andover quilt and two are just like my linked pattern so I can make just those two and it will work. Great.

I had the same idea if I couldn't find a pattern except change the sizes of the blocks a bit. Thanks |

Charming Thank you for the link.

This is a layout I did in EQ7. 8 inch blocks 1 block is solid fabric 8 x 8 in (cut 8-1/2 x 8-1/2 in) 1 block made up of 2 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 in blocks (cut 4 x 4 in), 1 8 x 1 in rectangle (cut 8-1/2 x 1-1/2 in), 1 3-1/2 x 1 in (cut 4 x 1-1/2 in) rectangle All the blocks sashed by a 1 in (cut 1-1/2 in) sashing. Size of blocks can be larger or smaller depending on your fabrics. |
Oh my gosh Fastpedal that is perfect!!! Thank you so much. Was it hard to design in EQ7? How do you know how to begin to design this? Can it be done in EQ6?
Thanks again. |
In all honesty, it looks pretty darned straightforward to me. Most likely based on a layer cake (10" squares) - - use some as 10" squares, cut some in half 5" x 10" and cut some in fourths 5" x 5". In the Patio pattern, it looks like the designer cut some 2 1/2" squares as well. You can make the sashing any size you like. The 'Frosted Christmas' sashing looks a tad more narrow but it's entirely up to you.
I agree with the other post - get some graph paper and draft it out. |
Sure looks like "Blitzen" which is a free pattern on Moda's site. You can do just about anything with EQ7.
|
Looks like a 10" square and another one cut in half, then another one quartered. Add stripes around the squares.
This is a easy one to draw out on graft paper. Patricia M. who used to be Pat M. |

I looks to me like the one on Esch House Quilts called Cobblestone. it was free when I printed it out but not sure if it still is.
