We just watched the Tim Allen/Jamie Lee Curtis Christmas movie where Danny Divito wants his house so lit up it can be seen from space, remember that one? Well, in their entrance hall is hanging a red and white quilt made entirely it looks like of half square triangles!!! I nearly came off the couch. Does anyone recognize the pattern or the designer, or is it just one of those old ones that's been around forever? I would love to make this quilt, might be able to figure it out from looking at it but Oh So Nice to have a pattern!
Thanks so much, and have a brilliant Season.

I don't think I have seen that movie...but you can bet I will be watching for the quilt if it comes on :D:D:D
Isn't it funny, that once you get interested in quilts, you see them in a lot of shows, movies and advertisements :D:D:D

The name of the movie is "Christmas with the Kranks." Seen it as couple of times, I can picture the quilt in my mind, but, that's as far as I get...no name...sorry!

Since I started quilting, I see quilts in movies all the time. I love that stylists include quilts so often. I wish someone would compile a list of those movies. This is all I could find: http://quiltflapper.blogspot.com/200...in-movies.html

OOOh, that's a pretty one to make! I'm going to bookmark this page. Probably will never happen, but nice to dream.

Damkina 12-23-2009 09:54 AM

What a lovely quilt. Probably won't happen here either, Espmommy, but we can live in hope.

The movie with Tim Allen/Jaimie Lee Curtis is "Christmas with the Cranks. The movie with Danny DeVito/Matthew Broderick is "Deck the Halls". Don't remember seeing the quilt though. Sorry.

Merry Christmas all.

Great wallhanging. Love it.

Yay!! The quilting network does it again. I'm amazed, and thanks so much. I am going to make this quilt.
Have a wonderful Season everyone.

shaverg 12-24-2009 07:35 AM

It is very similar to Birds in the air.

JudeWill 12-24-2009 09:47 AM

I think you are getting your movies mixed up. The one you are talking about was just on recently and it was called Deck the Halls. Mathew Broderick played Danny DeVitos neighbor. Boy, you are observant, I did not see the quilt. Now I have to watch for another showing so I can see it.

hapytlk 12-24-2009 10:52 AM

Just saw part of that movie and it was with Danny Devito, Matthew Broderick and the gal who played Charlotte on Sex in the City....Don't remember a quilt..only saw a small part of the movie

The quilt we are talking about is not in that movie. It's in the other one.

Thanks so much, kwhite, I'm in love with red & white and have seen this quilt somewhere before, but couldn't put my finger on it. Now I've got to see that movie over the holiday!
Thanks again,
Kind Regards,
MaryAnna

I love to look for quilts in old movies, and in movies set in olden periods. Once you start looking, it's amazing how many you see. And recogize the pattern of!

shaverg 12-24-2009 11:47 PM

Runaway quilt novel talks about a quilt called birds in the air, it was used as a way to give slaves directions to their next safe house. The pattern is very similar.

Very good movie... and who all came out of their seat and yelled at the TV when she drug that beautiful quilt through the dirt!!!!

kwhite 12-25-2009 03:59 AM

OMG I am glad I didn't see the movie. I was at a wedding last year where the bride drug her train through the grass up the isle and then out over the parking lot to leave. It took EVERYTING I had not to go up and grab it off the ground!!!

granny216 12-25-2009 05:00 AM

Good Golly kwhite. I made a block like this in a quilt guild for someones block of the month and I never saw the quilt completed as I could not leave DH unattended. I love it in the two colors...wonder why it looked like in scraps colors as we had to just make it in two colors..whatever.

littlehud 12-25-2009 07:33 PM

What a pretty quilt. I would love to make that one.

pegquilter8 12-26-2009 08:20 AM

Dancinig Needle, You are amazing.
Is this a variation on corn and peas or Lady of the Lake?
I, too love seeing quilts in movies.
I make art quilts and have considered offering to hang in professional offices to show that quilts can be art as well as comfy blankets.
To too Muxh fabric. Good luck in making.

sandpat 12-27-2009 06:27 AM

Oh, love that pattern and I loved the movie too...one of my favorite things to do..mix quilting and movie watching   The only thing is that its kinda' hard to munch popcorn at the same time...gets all the butter on the quilt

Feathers 12-27-2009 08:01 PM

Wow! what a quilt and how exciting the pattern was found for all of us to bookmark and try when we have time. THANK YOU!
