Name your comfy hand sew location?
Had a rare 2 whole days off, weather rainy and miserable. So I put together a quilt top with beach scene panels with lots of different colour blue and white strips, for my surfer son (not sure how to do the photo thing yet, so can't show you). Whilst on a roll, I decided to unpick a quarter of it and do it again, so took it to my son's football game (we can park around the oval at country footy). We have to get there an hour before the game, so sat in the warmth of the car, unpicking. I thought this is comfier and with better light than inside my house, must do this in the car more often. Creativity is a shapechanger, sew up a revolution!! |
I sit in my recliner with a good TV program or movie. It works because I have an Ott light and a lighted magnifying lens on a stand that comfortably reach over the side of my recliner and illuminate my work day or night.
Mine is my bed! I am pretty much housebound due to illness at the moment and I have to spend the majority of my time in my bed. I am so glad that I decided to start an EPP project or I might have gone a little bit mad by now! :-)
i love natural light for working. when i lived in MN, i had a nice enclosed porch. for inside, i have a couple of ott lights to use at my recliner.
Couch or sitting up in bed, watching tv.
Actually --- i sit a my kitchen table...so i can watch TV....and pull up my ironing board in front of me to hold the work while i stitch. I can get that board to just the right height i want to rest my arms and the work on it. My family room chairs are too soft and squishy to sit in to sew....i fall asleep !!!!
Sitting on the sofa in front of the TV.
My Gand sewing is a take along project so it's wherever I happen to be.
I love to sit outside on my swing for hand sewing...
Believe it or not my favorite hand sewing area is just 3 feet west of my sewing machine! LOL Comfy chair, good light, easy access to anything I may need, sewing table is right in front of me if I need to rest large project, radio softly playing on a country rock station. (I don't really care for TV) Safe side table for my tea, coffee, or on a really stressful day, wine. LOL Can't hear the phone from there so leave a message if DH doesn't answer.
usually a car for me, hand work is my busy bag project when we travel.
I wish I could say that it's the nice chair in front of the big screen television. I could watch old movies while working, but kitties think it is a great place to sleep and they weigh down my knees, not to mention the hair they leave behind. Guess it will have to remain the table in the sewing room. It has a television, but not as big.

*** Easy chair in the living room, *** Gus (my cat) sleeping beside me, *** & TV on Jeopardy -or- Survivor. *** |
In my rocking chair in front of the TV. Waiting during my DH chemo.
I have what they call a chair and a half with huge ottoman. My Ott Light is there too. When the NFL football season starts thats where you will find me, stitching away. I never miss a game! But just can't sit, have to sew, embroider or applique.
Hypothetically, it would be in my recliner w a good lamp for lighting. However, whenever I sit there, I end up with at least one cat on my chest/in my face. Thus, no sewing gets accomplished!
If I am sewing on a binding, I like to sit in my recliner and put a movie on the TV. When I'm *unstitching* or just doing a small amount of hand sewing, I like to sit out back on our deck or in my Cracker Barrel rocker on my front porch (weather permitting). I really prefer the natural light.
Last year, I bought my husband a fancy recliner that has heat and massage. He never uses the recliner except to read the morning paper. It has become my sewing chair. I have news on the TV or listen to an audio book while I do my hand sewing there. I have an Ott light by the chair and wear my clip on magnifying glasses. I love it when I have hand sewing.
Thanks everyone, must get an OTT light and a recliner, maybe the cat to go with it! Quilt Love Vicki
My favorite place is my new Tony Little anti-gravity chair with massage and heat....only problem is once I fire up the massage, I fall asleep! My sewing projects usually end up, untouched, on the side table! Zzzzzzzzzzzzz! Lol!
My two main hand-sewing spots are in the car, and in my recliner in front of the tv after the kids are in bed. We live 3-4 hours from each of our parents, so weekends to visit involve long car rides. I love keeping my hands busy while we're driving. I used to read books, but sewing allows me to be more involved in conversations with the family and also to see the scenery.
My favorite place to hand stitch is my recliner with my feet up and the Ott light next to me. If we are traveling, I always have smaller hand stitching projects to do in the car. We recently traveled by plane and I took EPP to do. Have to keep my hands busy while watching TV or traveling in the car.
My favorite places are in my rocking chair or in the car.
I do a lot in the car when traveling (DH is driving...of course!) at home it is on the sofa in front of TV as DH's mantra is "come sit with me". I must have something to do ... I can't JUST sit and watch TV.
I have always done all my hand sewing at the kitchen table, unless I am traveling. It seems that even with my beautiful (but messy) studio, the kitchen table is the perfect height and the lighting is great. and my choice of TV shows
I have a counter height dining room table. It's big enough to spread a quilt on it. It is easy to bind a quilt there, no need to have the quilt on me while I'm sewing. The light fixture is right above me so I have great light. And the quilt looks like a beautiful table cover while I'm binding. I do EPP in the living room while sitting in a chair by the window.
In my recliner with a TV table on the right side with all the needed items under a very bright light. My DH likes it when I am with him watching TV and I can still do my sewing. There are times when I think that I really don't want to sew that binding on by hand, but when I get started it is very soothing. I also like to see how well I can do my stitching so that you can't see it at all, self challenging usually serves me well.

Any place that I land that is comfortable and has good light.
I really don't have a good place--need to work on this.

When dh and I go on vacation in our fifth wheel, I always take projects with me. He will go fishing or crabbing and I will go along and sit in the truck and work on my project. The light inside the truck is perfect. Outside is too bright, inside is too dark, but that truck and I work well together :) At home I sit wherever looks comfy at the moment. Could be the couch, or in my sewing room or at the kitchen table. I have Ott lites all over, but it's not the same as that truck :)
When I have hand sewing or tearing out to do I sit in front of the TV on he sofa and watch shows I have taped for just such an occasion. Law and Order is my favorite.
My recliner in the living/sewing room with my TV. My cats usually beg to come on my lap during this time, but I have to send them away if I want to get anything done. Poor kitties.
Please post picture of the beach scene quilt when you can.....I have a panel and sure could use some inspiration!
Thanks for the tip about the car. |
