i always name mine--the name comes about by any number of ways-influences...sometimes it has to do with the pattern involved-sometimes it is chosen because of the recipient, or occassion...sometimes a color or theme may influence it---it's like naming your new puppy/kitty---the name that identifies the quilt is it's name :)
my blue bargello with the appliqued sealife is called 'Ashley's Ocean' because Ashley asked for a new quilt (and i really like blue & dolphins, grandma) :)

I have taken to giving my quilts song names. The first quilt I named was "The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring, Tra-La (from the Mikado) because the fabrics were loaded with spring flowers. The quilt I'm working on right now is "The Gambler" (Kenny Rogers) because of the "winning-hand" pattern I'm adapting. Does anyone know if there is any infringement on copyright laws by doing this?

I do this too! I have a blue log cabin plus quilt I did all in blue and white called "Wrapsody in Blue."
