has anyone ever used naval jelly on any machine parts to get rid of rust? just ordered some from the carparts store and gonna see just how good it claims to be...

Ok, just what is "naval jelly" and why is it sold at an auto parts store? Inquiring minds...you know!
Please post how well it worked for you. |
Isn't it about the same as petroleum jelly?
|
I used it on the iron parts of a treadle cabinet...it worked on the rust enough so that after cleaning I could spray it with Rustoleum.

I would ask the resident expert - Lostn51- before I used it on sewing machine parts. My DH, who has a furniture repair and restoration business, says he might use it for rust on the surface of a treadle, but not on machine parts. But--he doesn't work on sewing machines.

Naval jelly works great for removig rust. I've never used it on machine parts, but we've used it on rusty metal since the early 60's....
